Question about Linksys Wireless-G WRT54GS Router (e125894)

1 Answer

Router orange button

I was trying to reset my router because it wasn't connecting with my laptop wirelessly and accidentally held down on the orange rectangular Linksys logo button on the top left corner of the router to the point where the orange light went out. I later found out that that was the setup button. I am now unable to access the internet through my router, is there a way of rectifying this problem? I've tried the obvious things like resetting etc...I also couldn't access 192.168.1.1 at one stage.
Thanks!

Thanks! That worked...only I'm now stuck with the original problem of the WLAN not working...the green WLAN light is always on but not blinking like it should when it's working. I had no problems with it until a few days ago.

On the back of the unit is a reset button
Hold that down for 30 sec
that will completely reset the router back to factory defaults
turn the unit off for 15 min while the ISP's connection resets.
Then power back up.
you should be able to reach 192.168.1.1 via the browser thru the wired connection.
Then setup the system again.
the only problem is if your MAC was cloned by the ISP and that is the only connection they will let back on.
If that is the issue, please respond back

Need to access wirless internet but dont know my security key or passphrase.

Hi connellmandy, no real way around this... Best to reset the wireless router back to factory defaults, reconfigure to lock it down and apply the security key/passphrase to your wireless laptops. you WILL also need to know what your old settings were for example, your ISP username, ISP password, IP addresses, your new wireless security keys, and ports and services that were opened. It all needs to be re-entered.
For Belikin routers:
•Unplug all LAN cables from the router.
•Unplug the router power cord connector from the back of the device.

•Using a paper clip or something similar that will fit into the reset hole, press continue to hold the reset button, then carefully reinsert the power cord, making sure not to release the reset button in the process.

•Continue to hold the reset button in for at least 15 seconds after inserting the power cord, then release it. After about 10-25 seconds the router will boot and it will be set back to the original factory default settings.
By default the password on the router is left blank, and the default IP address is 192.168.2.1

For Netgear:

The default username is admin and the password is either password or 1234. (Try these before resetting the router.) You may be able to get the wireless security key and/or passphrase.

  1. Press the reset button on the back until the test light blinks. This takes about 10 seconds. (To avoid accidental resets, the small button is recessed. Use a pen or paperclip to access it.)
  2. Release the button.
  3. Wait for the router to reboot.
  4. Log in with the default password.

If the router configuration was not cleared, try these additional steps AFTER the router has finished rebooting.

  5. Unplug the router's power.
  6. Press and hold the reset button. While the button is held down, reconnect router's power.
  7. Continue to hold the reset button for 20 seconds after reconnecting the power.
  8. Wait for the router to reboot.
  9. Log in with the default password.
Good Luck .. hope it helps out. Most routers have a small pinhole at the back of the modem to reset the unit back to factory defaults.

Can't access 192.168.1.1

Most of the NETGEAR devices, except ReadyNAS products and Fully Managed switches, have the following default username and password:
  • Username = admin
  • Password = password
    • For older devices, password = 1234
If you have changed the default password and have forgotten the password, you may need to reset the NETGEAR device to factory default settings.

Or you will need to update the firmware to rest the router.

First connect your router computer with ethernet cable then you can access it with following link.

type user name as "admin" and password as "admin" or blank or "password"
then you can see configuration page of router.
Then set WAN settings as your internet service providers settings.
Enable DHCP .
now go to wireless enable it.
If you want security then go to wep security and add wep code it is your password to connect wi fi .

Then save and restart router.
Let me know if you need more assistanse.
Thanks.

Unable to reset a Belkin Wireless N F5D8236-4v1 back to default

That is indeed strange. Holding in the reset button should definitely clear the wireless router memory. Are you sure that you're going to the right administration page to configure the router? It should be something like 192.168.1.1.

Also... by any chance are there other wireless networks nearby? I'm wondering if your computer accidentally connected to that while the wireless router was off... and now you're going to the wrong router.

If none of that works, try leaving the router unplugged for about five minutes. The volatile memory shouldn't last much longer than that.
