Question about PC Laptops

Mitac Minote I have a "classic" Minote 8060B - P1454IW which is brilliant although getting a bit slow that has now decided to intermittetly turn out the screen fluoro lights. The image is still showing and performance is OK but I can't see the image. Two questions: Can this screen problem be easily fixed (new lights?) What is the easiest way to speed up the performance?

Re: Mitac Minote

Problem fixed. The screen surround came off easily to reveal the inverter circuit board. Having retrieved some useful data from "laptopscreensdirect" I made a simple resistor network across the output to the CCFL (lamp). It allowed me to measure the output using a multimeter, Looking for 200v rather than 20Kv. On switching on the lappy the meter flickered and then indicated 0v. I purchased a replacement inverter online from the above web-shop. Easily replaced, my screen was running within minutes.

Re: Mitac Minote

Enter your bios settings, then find the power managemont, check to see if the system is set to conserve power, disable power savings and see if the problem persists.

I have a 3 year old asus eee PC and it is running like a dog! Help!!!

It's an ATOM CPU @ 1.6GHz and should be running XP. Do you still have 1GB of RAM? Upgrade to 2GB if possible. Get rid of Win 7. Get rid of Ubuntu.

I got an old dog myself, and I just installed Ubuntu. Slow, but it's dual boot.

A100 Toshiba satellite, running slow when opening any software. I had it re- installed previously, saved everything deleted what i did not need, a software engineer freind did this, and the speed was...

If you visit Toshibas web site, follow the links and upgrade your drivers and BIOS then update all of your OS upgrades. Run Speed Disk or Defrag regularly and maybe add a bit more RAM. That will be about as good as it gets after that.
Hope it helps.

Mitac 8060b screen is really dull can only just make out any detail on screen has anyone any information as to why, thank you

Try attaching an external monitor to the laptop & see if you could get any display on it. If this is successful, then you might have either a faulty LCD cable or screen inverter board.
The LCD cable transfers data signal from the motherboard & video card to the LCD screen. It also supplies high voltage DC power to the screen inverter board. The screen inverter board works as a power supply for the backlight lamp mounted inside the LCD screen. It converts low voltage DC power to high voltage AC power needed for the backlight lamp
