Question about Chaintech 7NJL3 Motherboard

Lock up Locks and has to be shut down and rebooted from scratch. Get a blue screen from time to time but mostly just locks up. Didn't do this unitl I added 256K RAM the other day. RAM will not work if installed per manual. Manual says to DDR3 but it doesn't work when I do that. Both stick are in DDR1 & 2.

I built the computer from parts ordered through Tigerdirect.com. I ordered the ram along with the MB and matched the RAM to the MB per their selection protocol.

When initially assembling the machine, I could not get it to work with both sticks of 256K Ultra DDR3 RAM but it worked fine although it was a bit slow with the one stick of RAM. It worked fine for a couple of years that way.

Recently the demands on the machine have increased, making it dead slow. I tried putting the additional stick of RAM in again per the manual, that being one stick in DDR 3 and one in either DDR 1 or 2 but got the same problem as I did whe I first built the machine a couple of years earlier.

Then I decided to try putting the RAM in DDR 1 and 2 and did not put anything DDR 3. Worked really well and fast for a a few hours, then it started this screen freeze problem and occasionally giving me the dreaded Blue Screen of Death.

When I get the Blue Screen it just takes a second for the machine to shut down but when it experiences a lock up it you have to hold the power button in for a few seconds for it to shut down.

In either case it will boot right back up but got to the point that it was either locking up or blue screening after only a few random amount of minutes.

I haven't tried taking the memory stick back out because that really doens't solve my problem. I would still have a painfully slow computer that is so slow that it is almost useless.

If you need any other particulars just let me know.

Oh yeah. Regarding the Vista & XP RAM requirements issue, I have XP and not Vista and the reason for putting the second stick of RAM in was to get the more favorable amount of 512 for XP. Like I said, it wor,ked OK but slow for a long time with just 256 but got too slow. In fact, I was going to order a 1 Gig stick if I can get this problem sorted out with the MB.

  • W4833 Jan 03, 2008

Thanks guys. I did check out the memory sticks and sure enough one was bad from the factory. I ordered a gig of RAM today and will install when it gets here. I appreciate the info and direction you provided. It was well worth the small investment.

Hi W483.
The manual say it have to be DDR3.
You say you added 256kb of RAM, do you know what is that card?(ex DDR, DDR3...)
What was the old RAM you had in that computer? DDR3?

    W4833,
I recomend you also to see this web page.
It say 5 easy ways to speed up your computer,
You should also consder that is better for a computer if you add same memory cards.
For example, if you already have DDR3 in your computer it will be better and safer to buy another DDR3 regarless its speed (250, 512...) If you already have DDR3 and add DDR or DDR2 that might cause conflicts in your computer.

Do you know what is your new RAM memory, and what is the one wich was already installed?

remember that Vista requires minimum 1 gb of RAM, XP need at least 512 to run normaly

did you already go to the microsoft link i gave you? at least for some time that can make your computer a little bit faster.
I will recomend you to buy another RAM memory,
You know, 256 is the smalles memory. (for DDR, DDR2 ect)
I will recomend you to buy 1 stick of memory at your local computer shop.
This is just a reference you can see, The prices for RAM memories are quite low I'd say. You can get a 1 stick of RAM of DDR for about $150

If you have 2 RAM memory slots, and you can only use 1 RAM memory, then the other RAM slot might be damaged,
Buy it online or in your local computer shop. 1Gb of ram will make you not worry about it never again. (untill you buy another computer) and will speed up your computer for sure.

Well the locking up cam from the rams, you processor can sometimes cause this as well, but the blue screen you got I'm sure its stated beginning dump of physical memory, which means it the rams or memory. no that means that your older memory is bad so you need to change it.

1.) Remove the old memory
2.) Verify the type of memory it is by
a) looking at the label on the memory
b) looking at your manual
c) the notch that cut into the memory
d) taking it along with you and you buy a new one
3.) look at the new memory and the slot to insert the memory into

4.) Ensure the notches and lined up and firmly press the memory in. ( the holding clips should be in open position(spread apart))

5.) thats it your done

Remember that when buying rams buy the amount necessary for your operating system and the amount compatable for your board.

WINDOWS XP = 512mb
WINDOWS vista = 1gb

Check both memorys in the comp by removing one and booting from the other, then shutting down and changing them and booting again. If you get a beeping sound once per second like beep , beep , beep, pause, beep beep beep, etc than its your memory as well, If it still stalls or freezes its the memory as well.

So you might need to run it for a cpl minutes of eighter of the memorys to find which one is bad.. ALSO IF THE CLOCK SPEEDS dont match you could get the same problem..

  • Rishi Roshan Ali Jan 01, 2008

CLOCK SPEED ISNT THE AMOUNT OF MEMORY

512 mb can have clock speed or 333 or 400 etc

DID YOU CLEAN OUT THE SLOTS FROM DUST AND CLEAN THE RAMS in the computer ?

  • Rishi Roshan Ali Jan 03, 2008

Ok HERE IS A SOLUTION THAT WILL WORK just pay attention and follow details to the letter

Verify that both memory sticks are correct by trying them on a different computer or running a diagnostic on them ( you can get a diagnostic program on the Hirens boot cd aviable here)

    http://www.phazeddl.com/search.php?q=hir...

do a memory diagnostic followed by a processor diagnostic

now remove the old memory from your computer and insert the new one see if it works

It could be that the new memory is bad

any way if the hhirens says all is well then format your harddrive and install windows followed by your drivers and software

VERY RARE does software conflict in the registery cause memory dump errors or stalling 99% of the time it is memory.

I strongly believe one of your memory module is bad you can try my above methods again and the ones i posted befpre this comment. IF THE MEMORY IS GOOD THEN PLEASE FORMAT YOUR HARDDRIVE AND REINSTALL WINDOWS TO SOLVE YOUR PROBLEM

W4833:
I think if it was working fine till you added the RAM, they type of the RAM you have installed is different to the one which already was working fine.
Take the new RAM out restart your machine and if it boots and work fine we can blame the new RAM, in this case you would have to take the old RAM to any store which sells RAM and match up the type with the old one.
NOTE: Make sure the RAM you are buying is fully compatible to your motherboard, note down the specs from your mother board and match properly while buying the new RAM.

Also if the type of the RAM is fine then the motherboard manual suggestion about the slots should work fine.

  • Adnan Manzoor Jan 03, 2008

Looking at your situation. I recommend:

-Buy a new one strip of RAM 1GB and start the test on different slots.

-Either one of the RAM or the slot is causing the issue.

    Best of luck!

when you get in the van lock the doors before you "take off" and that should fix that sound you hear when the doors lock. by locking the doors before you leave, the van will tell itself the doors are locked. i know having to lock the doors every time is a hassle, but this should solve your problem.

Nec 5800 120lf shutting down getting blue screen that says hardware error contact hardware vendor I can't see anything wrong in the event viewer if I reboot server works for various lengths of time them...

Analyzing the minidump might help, but that requires a little tech understanding. Did you try loading the default bios settings to see if timing is a problem?
It looks like it could also be a temperature problem, so try opening the cabinet and see it the problems consist. Also check if all fans are running.

Further you can check some general blue screen error handling.

Laptop Display flashs then screen locks up

I wouldn't suspect its anything other than your lcd or inverter. Connecting it to an external monitor cements it. If it was the video card or motherboard it would have certainly done it again. For it to appear locked up would just mean the picture you are watching was the last in its memory to post. Meaning, if the inverter or lcd start having problems, the last thing it was told to display would appear to be frozen to whoever is watching but in actuality its the display not machine that is frozen. Try ejecting the cd tray. Better yet set your power button shut down when pushed. Then have it have another lock up watching a video then push the power button or eject to see if it responds. Then you will know forsure. Hope that helps.

Magellan Maestro 3100 locks

You can try a hard reset. Hold in the reset button (left side of unit, use a pin or toothpick), while turning on the unit. If you don't get the blue Magellan screen, you'll have to try again. If you get a screen with a blue background and a menu, turn it off and try again.
So far, this has fixed:
1. unit won't go on
2. unit reboots when routing
3. unit turns off after a few seconds

At least, it's fixed it for me. No idea why this happens, but it's pretty damn annoying. Give it a try.

After playing ps2 for about 30 minutes it locks up and you can only see a still screen, it doesn't do it with all games only some

It could be a couple of things. Most likely being that your disc is scratched, and everytime about 30 minutes into the vdeo game or Movie, your system cannot read the data and just stops finctioning. Try a different disc to see if it locks up on it at the same timing.
The other thing that may be aggrevating your Console and causing it to lock is dust and lint build up. If the dust and lint bloack the heat from getting out it will lock up on you say after 30 minutes or less. open your case and clean all the dust and lint out.
