Question about Canon PowerShot A85 Digital Camera
Dear Camera Experts,
I have an A85 and one day while I wanted to capture pics, I noticed that the display window showed blurry images and when viewing images through the LCD screen - the picture showed a steak of different colors and was jittery.
I thought the display was going on me and when I reviewed previously captured images (on my CF card), they appear fine in the LCD display.
Unfortunately the camera is out of warranty and when I brought it to a photo shop, they told me that the typical cost of fixing is not worth the repair - "buy a new one". I think that's just a sales person working hard for his commission.
Right now, the camera display is blank (black screen) with the camera usual icons displayed (red eye, SL, etc.). I don't think it's the LCD dispay and have a feeling that the issue lies inside - Lens?

This sounds like it might be a defective CCD imager. If so, Canon should fix this for you for free, including free shipping both ways. This is regardless of your camera's warranty status. Please check the following two links for more info:
