Uhh yeah, stupidest question ever, When you press the reset button on a router, a) how do you know when it's reset and b) Does it reset everything? or just the passes?
Remember, there are no stupid questions, just stupid people who ask questions....only kidding.
The reset button will refresh connections if pressed quickly. The manual says to hold it for "a few seconds" to perform a complete reset. A complete reset will return it to factory defaults. It's IP address will be 192.168.1.1 and when you login username should be left blank and the password will be "admin" with no quotation marks. It wll also be set to DHCP and there will be no security.
As far as re-starting your computer, there is no reason to do this, but...if your computer expects the router's address to be something other than 192.168.1.1 or if it's set up to expect a static IP configuration you'll need to change some things on the computer.
I want you to know that I don't get paid for providing these suggestions. It's a strange hobby I know, but I like trying to help. If you found this information helpful I hope you'll rate it positively. If it does not help please ask more questions, I'd be happy to help more. Thanks, and good luck.

Two windows 7 PCs connected to DLINK DGS-1005D gigabit switch. Switch is commected to DSL-G604T wireless modem/router (old gen1 model). All works fine for a while then internet access speeds for one computer on the switch drops to about 10% normal. Plugging this PC directly to the router stops problem and works fine - but then i loose the gigabit speed link with the other PC.

I recently purchased a Belkin N150 (during the walmart black friday sale) and it has been running fine since I pulled it out of the box. Three times now, when trying to connect to my router with my wireless laptop, the computer does not connect to the router. The light on the router stays off until I pull the power cord for 10 seconds and a hard reset is done. I tried going through settings but I can't figure it out. Is this my router or my computer which I just recently put Windows 7 on.
