Wet or just worn out?

This morning it was extremely rainy & my phone was in my pocket. I'm assuming it got wet because when I turn it on, after taking the battery out & putting it back in, it turns off. It turns off once it dims down from it's dimming time. The buttons aren't working when I try to press something, but I can still get text messages, I just can't see them. I need help fixing this somehow.
