Playing Videos on my Archos AV500

On my computer I have some videos, but when downloading to the AV500, the message 'cannot play video, CODEC 'MJPG' is not supported. Is there a 'converter' available.

Re: Playing Videos on my Archos AV500

If you have windows, you can sync your videos through windows media player, when you do this it should convert the videos into wmv format, which will then play on the Archos.

My Sony Bluray/Disc player will not open Netflix & play. Started trouble with streaming & now it won't open it at all. No error message. It opens Amazon, Youtube, etc & will play those videos. Help!

Since the last number of months the media sites have been phasing out Flash for playing videos. They are moving to HTML5 video player. The devices that use these services will have to be updated to be compatible.

I have no idea about the different manufacture policies at what age of devices will be updated. With most disk players and TV sets that are less than about three years old they can be put in to a home network to be allowed to have factory firmware (internal software) updates. Check to see if your player model can be connected to a network for updates. Many of the models can use WiFi to access the net, if you have WiFi at home or at the location of the disk player. It is the same for TV set. The older models of disk players require a file to be downloaded from the manufacture site for the particular model, converted to an ISO file, burned to a CD disk, and then the CD loaded in to the player's drive; to perform the update.

Another solution to watch the videos is to use a computer that has an HTML5 compatible browser. If the display card of the computer has an HDMI with embedded audio output it can be connected to your video center or TV set to view the movies.

The newest versions of Firefox, Chrome, and Internet Explorer should have HTML5 compatibility. It is also a good idea to install Microsoft Silver Light. Some sites will require Java to be installed to access playing their videos with HTML5.

I hope this helps out...

I need a codec code to play a video off my sd card for a sylvania sdvd704ob portable dvd player

Codecs are for computers. If your DVD is one of those stand-alone DVD players or those you you connect to a TV, there is no way to load it a codec.

There are different codecs for different type of video files and installerd dedepend of operating system of your device.

just for your informatiom, a very cood codec pack is the one offered by L-Lite for Windows

Download Lite Codec Pack

If you decide download it for your computer, be careful WHAT you download., press where it says download... in small letters. Keep away from big DOWNLOAD displays, they are adware and potentially unconvenient programs

"G2M3 codec" I get the above

If you are trying to view the video on a DVD player then your stuffed - it will not work - the codec is missing, This is usualy associated with videos such DivX or .avi's etc. The best bet is to view it on your PC if you can. If Windows media player does not work then simply download VLC for free - this allows you to view everything! It is like having a master key for all Codec's. The one I prefer can be found at

Good luck - and please "rate me" if you found the above useful.

Hi my archos 504 will play videos for 2-3 minutes then will stop(freeze). No sound is being heard. For music files, it will not play at all. For photos, it is ok. For videocorder, it does not record nor...

This is a good player available in the market.
ONE: Try a hard reset. Just unplug the power cord for 30 minutes or more, then try again.
TWO: the lazer head reader will be faulty, which would result in freeze and cause sound problems
It will not be wise for you to take the set to a repair facility simply because the repair, unless it is under warranty or you have an extended warranty plan, because the cost of repair is as much or more than the purchase price of a new player.

BBC Videos

Are you talking about the videos on the BBC new site?  They use wmv format and for that you may need to download a 3rd party utility for the codec.
Go to and download Flip4Mac (link:  )  and install it.  It allows you to play this format video either in Safari or within Quicktime.
If you run into a problem, just let me know and I will walk you through it.
Good luck.

Sansui VRDVD4000 format

I do not believe this player plays AVI videos, not to mention whatever codec you are trying to use.

Download VSO ConvertXtoDVD and convert your AVI files to DVD and then burn them to DVD-R (NOT DVD+R), the 4.7GB discs (single-layer).

This process takes a very long time, depending on the size of the movies you are converting, some 1-2 hours, some 8-24 hours.

I suggest buying a Philips DVD Player that plays DivX and XviD AVI files, they seem to be the best. You can just burn the AVI to any disc and it will play. [Most popular seems to be Philips DVP 642]
