White specs when taking pic with flash - C...

Something very annoying is showing up in some pictures I took with the flash .. "white specs".
I checked Canon's website for an explanation and they say it is caused when there are dust particles in the air. That explanation is a bit unreal to me as the places where I took those shots were not dusty at all. Besides if when I took 2 succesive pictures at the same spot, 1 would show the specs where as the other would be ok.
Some pictures could show tons of specs, others just a few, and others would with none.... so it is very unpredictable.
Canon tech support was not able to help more except suggest I take the camera for inspection at a certified dealer. Since my camera is brand new (oct 2007) I found this problem to be extrelemy annoying.
If anyone has encountered such a problem with this model or any other camera I would appreciate some feed back.
