Question about Mitsubishi WS-55809 55" Rear Projection Television

1 Answer

Loss of convergence on the edges

My Mitsubishi WT-46807 instantly lost its convergence on both edges (more on the right than left) with slight loss on the left. I am not able to reset the convergence with factory reset or manually, even in the advanced sector mode. Is this repairable?

You need to re-solder the circuit board that contains the STK392-570 convergence modules. They're on the center circuit board attached to an aluminum heat sink that's about 8" long and 6" tall, about dead center in the circuit board. You may be able to recreate the problem (hour glass effect) by gently moving the heat sink (which the modules are connected to). This gives the hour glass effect on the picture and the advanced convergence screen. This is an indication that the modules pins aren't solidly connected (meaning soldered) properly. Remove the circuit board and clean the old solder off & resolder the modules pins to the circuit board reconnected the board and then retest by again pushing on the heat sink. This is a caused by a minimum effort (a.k.a. minimum cost) solder job, probably done in some 3rd world sweat shop. The "factory" job was good enough for 3-4 years but the heat (and these modules do create a lot of heat) and stress created from repeated use eventually takes it's toll, weakens the pin connections and our problem occurs. take the appropriate cautions working around the high voltage of the set & use a non-conduting piece of wood to push the heat sink when we doing tests. Best of luck, hope ya fix it.

hi,
Error code 2-2 indicates "Short Protect Circuit" problem in tv.
Need to check pico fuses in power supply as one or two got blown due to bad convergence chips.
Below is an exploded view of tv chassis, power supply and convergence area has been marked to give you better idea to look for pico fuses.
Unplug tv from wall socket before to repair/check any thing inside tv.
Hope these info will help you.
Let me know if you have additional question.
Thanks.

if convergence problem color would be bowed and off. If it is the convergence replace ic stks there are 2 inside tv if you could solder and good at this stuff. parts cost is 30.00 . if you are going to get fixed cost is 300.00 . www.part store.com has parts just give them model number .They can tell you part number.I would pay someone to do this it is trickey.

I think ghosting is ground problem on cable connections check connections and replace cable wire.

intermittent convergence fail. suggest re-soldering the 2 convergence output ICs on the middle power board. they are the 2 large devices located on the largest heat-sink on the middle board(looking at from back) once you re-solder them as long as the aren't faulty internally you should be all set.
