Hi you need to go into internet explorer, in where you would type www.ebay.com for example you type 192.168.1.1 im sure thats correct one for your router, but if you know the routers ip address just put it in, hit enter
a menu will appear asking for username and password
usually - admin , password - password
or
admin ,admin
you will find correct setting in manual if you still have it,
once you get in, click on wireless settings, in there you can change the wireless channel quite easilly..

Happy New Year

2 issues tp look at:
1. signal is marginal - move closer to router and see if it improves
2. interference from other networks. Change the channel the router is using to one not being used by a close network. A program like inSSIDer will give u a view of the signals around u.

Losing network connection

CONTINUAL DISCONNECTION OF WIRELESS CONNECTION
There are a few things that can cause you to lose wireless connection with your wireless router. 1. Weak signal strength, check the signal strength on your wireless card. If it is weak move the wireless router away from brick or concrete walls and if possible locate the wireless router higher up. 2. Have you secured your wireless router from people near your from unauthorized access? i.e. change the default password, setup encryption use WPA2 or WPA, change the default SSID, and turn off SSID broadcast, and for added protection, enable MAC address filtering which allows only the MAC address/es of your wireless card/s to connect to your wireless router. 3. You could be getting interference from electrical sources such as air conditioners, arc welders, washing machines etc. If so, the power supply to the wireless routers and computers etc should be connected to a surge protection power board, better still connect your computer equipment to an UPS (Uninterrupted Power Supply). 4. Check the channels of the wireless routers and access points in your area and change the broadcast channel on your wireless router to an unused channel or one that is currently used but has the weakest signal strength. This will minimize interference with your wireless router from other wireless routers and access points in your area.

Wont connect to the internet. And losing connection to the internet

Watch your signal strength while using the notebook. Do you have the same problems when you are close to wireless access point? If not then you may need reposition the router so it doesn't have to pass through many walls. IF you have other wireless devices such as cordless phones, etc. You may need to select a different channel for the router to broadcast on. Try using channels 1,6, or 11.

Belkin f5d8635-4 Router connection problems

Open the working pc open internet explorer and type 192.168.1.2 in the webaddress bar. this will open your belkin router settings page. On the left choose channel and ssid. If it asks for a password leave the password box empty and just click submit. The channel is the frequency your wireless network operates on. Some channels are more stable than others, but its just trial and error until you find the most stable for your area. Change your wireless channel to a different one (any channel is fine, personally 1,11 or 8 works best for me) and click apply changes. Hope this helps.

You need to check the signal strength in the other room and compare it with where you were getting a good signal.
Check the other Access Points/routers in your area, are they broadcasting on the same channel, if they are then change your access point/router to a different channel.
To improve radio reception you may need to move the access point/router to another location away from solid walls etc.
Your wireless card may be as good as your roomates, if possible borrow one of theirs and set it up (configure it) for your laptop and see it it works better.
Try the other options before you buy another wireless card.

Your problem may be the construction of your room and the walls may be blocking the signal from bouncing around. Try to move your wireless unit to different parts of the room for a better signal.

If you click on VIEW WIRELESS NETWORKS and you have more than one signal being picked up by your notebook, you may be connecting to your neighbors systems and you may have a "channel" issue. In order to change the channel, you need to know what kind of router you have. If Linksys, 2wire, Netgear. Each have a different way of accessing the router for configuration.

First you need to know where your router is located. Click on START, RUN, type CMD followed by either the ENTER key or the RETURN key. In the black box, type IPCONFIG/ALL and look for default gateway.

In the above example, the default gateway is 10.10.0.1. Enter whatever number you have into the address bar of your browser.

In the above example, my router is a D-Link at address 10.10.0.1. Your's may vary depending on the brand. In any case you will need to log into your router, go to the wireless section of your screen and there you should be able to change the default channel. In Linksys, this would be under the WIRELESS section. Again, you need to know your router. When you do get in, try setting your channel to channel 3, 7, or 8.

Netgear wireless adapter

When you say home bases, i assume you mean desktop pc's. If the channel you mention is the channel that the router works off eg channel 11 then all wireless adapters have to be set to channel 11, or the same channel as the router. The reason for one disconnecting from the internet will probably be the adapter losing the signal because of obstacles like walls and doors, as if the signal gets too low then the reciever cannot connect properly with the router, hence dropping the connection. Try the router in a different higher position or at a phone socket nearer the troubled pc. The connection accross the network should be atleast good and at 54 MBPS, anything less may not connect properly. The laptops will tend to have a stronger connection as most have a signal up booster built in the screen.
