Unexpected shut down when clicking to another area
My QUICKEN 2001 has began to shut down when I click to go to another feature...like Savings to Checking, for instance. Now it seems that every time I click to go to another of my accounts, the Program just shuts down. I don't seem to be losing any data, but now I can't access my various accounts or Quicken features without the program shutting down.

- I don't have any problem restarting Quicken after these unexpected (and unwanted) shut downs. I have not lost any data and even made a successful backup. What happens is, with Quicken open and I try to "click" to another feature, instead of that happening, the program just shuts down!

- I'm not talking about Addons. We don't seem to be understanding each other.
What I am referring to is this: When I am working in Quicken, and need to go to another Acct...(say from Checking to one of my Credit card accounts) and click on the next acct. instead of going to that acct. the program just shuts down as if I had clicked "Exit" The same thing has happened when I tried to go to Scheduled Transactions or try to edit or add a new scheduled transaction. There does not seem to be a "pattern" to this behaviour, sometimes it happens and sometime not. This just started this morning, while I was working in Quicken. I am using Quicken 2001 Deluxe, which came with my DELL computer. At this point I can not remember or find any information, such as registration number, etc.

- OK...I have tried to follow your suggestion to Uninstall Quicken and the uninstall fails.
I get the message:
"Unable to locate the installation log file 'C:\QUICKENW\Uinstall.isu . Uinstall will not continue."
Now what do I do? I now have no access at all to Quicken.

Hi.
If Quicken is shutting down you won't be able to access your accounts. You need to repair the software first.
All you can do is trying to start in safe mode by pressing F8 on startup and check if Quicken can start in safe mode.
If the problem started recently, you can try doing a system restore to a date before the problem started. You find System restore from Start button at:
Start>Programs>Accessories>System Tools>System Restore
If that does not fix the problem, then you need to reinstall Quicken using the software CD and your licence number. If you choose to reinstall on top of the existing installation you wont loose any setting (repair).
If quicken does not reinstall from current account, then create a new account with administrator privileges and then reinstall quicken from the new account.
If you are still not able to remove and reinstall the software you can try using the free Microsoft utility available here to remove recently installed software.
Note: A new Quicken setup does not delete your data, but there is the chance that data had been previously damaged. In that case you can use a recent backup, or try recovering damaged data, see Basic troubleshooting to correct data file damage
Regards.

This will make things easier. If the program crashes when you try to access features (I mean Quicken Addons here), then one of the features, that are part of the installation, even if installed separately, is corrupted.

Solution does not change, apart of the fact that you do not have to worry about backup and data integrity. The best solution is removing and reinstalling the whole software, and then adding features and addons again. Then you restore your backup.

If By feature you mean a different program like Word, then it is a Windows problem, in that case do a system restore to a date before the problem started.

- Hi again.
RE:"I'm not talking about Addons. We don't seem to be understanding each other. That is what I understood in first place. Each time that I answer I try to cover any possibility. Each time I get an answer from you picking a sentence and not performing instructions given. Now at least I know you have some problem getting Quicken disk and licence. We can also work on that.
If Quicken is crashing , then it must be reinstalled. No matter what action is performed before crashing.
The solution is the same: You Need to Uninstall and Reinstall Quicken.
If you want, before reinstalling you can attempt a system restore.
If re-installing does not work, reinstall using a different account.
If after reinstalling, and restoring backup the problem persists, then the data is bad. Usually the software is responsible for this kind of behaviour, not the data.
Troubleshooting is always a sequential process, and if you cannot follow instructions we won't be able to proceed.
When the software was delivered with your Dell computer, it can be restored using the Dell Solution Center, listed on the Start menu. If you cannot use the Dell Solution Center, then contact Dell support, if you are a licence owner they may enable a download.
Quicken is not a standard Dell application, and he may have been provided with an additional disk. In that case you won't be able to reinstall from Dell Solution Center.
You can get for free Quicken online (similar but not the same thing) or an updated 2010 Q Deluxe version for about $59.
Try first a system restore to a date before having this problem, do not restore back before one month ago. Software installed after restore date may not work afterward.
I am going offline now, then the problem may be passed to a different expert in a couple of hours in case I am not able to answer.
Best regards.
Ginko.

- Hi.
I told you to do a system restore first. That may have saved us some trouble.
If the software doe snot install try the free Microsoft utility available here to remove installed software.

by the way, now you need to reinstall Quicken. Do the following:
Try using the Dell Solution Center, listed on the Start menu. If you cannot use the Dell Solution Center, then contact Dell support, if you are a licence owner they may enable a download.
Quicken is not a standard Dell application, and he may have been provided with an additional disk. In that case you won't be able to reinstall from Dell Solution Center.
You can get for free Quicken online (it will handle your files) or an updated 2010 Q Deluxe version for about $59.
