I have the same machine. I found that the tension mechanism would stick and have no tension. I disassembled it to find an arm that goes from the tensioner assebly to the foot lift mechanism. The arm had jumped on top of another metal piece, sticking the tensioner in the loose position. This would not happen all the time. I removed the arm from the tensioner and bent it so it was straight (or slightly down) so the arm would not jump on top of the other piece. When you raise the foot, the arm releases the tension on the thread.

My bobbin isn't sewing correctly

If the bobbin stitches look out of whack, your machine is probably threaded incorrectly. rethread with the presser foot up and see if this fixes the problem.

Have a Singer 11910000A and the bobber thread bunches up and makes a mess in the feet when sewing

Is it really the bobbin thread that is globbing? Check closely. Usually it is the upper thread accumulating under the fabric.

If it is in fact the bobbin thread, then the bobbin case is not threaded correctly, the bobbin case tension needs adjustment, or it is broken and needs replacement. There are web sites and YouTube videos that show how to adjust the bobbin case tension.

QUICK FIXES: Remove all the thread from the machine. Clean the area around the feed dogs and bobbin area. Oil as instructed in the owner's manual using ONLY fresh, good quality sewing machine oil (only 1-2 drops each spot). Install a brand new needle insuring it is installed correctly. Avoid using fuzzy, old, or bargain bin thread. Rethread: Be sure you raise the presser foot BEFORE threading the upper thread so it will seat properly in the tension disk--and check to make sure you are threading the machine correctly. Check that the upper tension is set properly (the factory standard is usually the halfway point between the high & low number on the selection). Test on a scrap of the fabric you wish to sew. Adjust the upper tension--either tighten to pull the upper thread toward the top of the fabric, or loosen to pull more upper thread down.

I have an old Singer Stylist 834 I am having problems as the under side of the simple straight stitch is loose and has tons of cotton tangled in a big mess ! Help ?

Mostly what causes that problem is incorrect threading of the upper tension. If you rethread, then pull the upper thread as you lowerr the presser foot there should be a big change. Foot up...little or no drag on the thread. Foot down..it should be tighter, almost enough to break the thread.

The other stuff to look for is.......marks on the needle plate that catch threads, a rough or misaligned bobbin case.....poor quality or too big a upper thread.

I have a singer simple 3116 sewing machine and it stitches loose upper threads. I?ve tried adjusting the tension, re threading, flipping the bobbin around, and even different fabric. But nothing seems to...

Insert a new needle, (flat side facing rear of machine), now totally rethread. Try this, with presser foot up, pull top thread, it should pull smoothly, now lower presser foot, the thread should barely move. This should seat the thread in the tension discs. If that doesn't work, call Singer at 1-800-4singer.

The bobbin in my 401A jamsafter sewing only a few inches leaving a knotted "mess" on the fabric . How can I repair this?

Something is not threaded right on the top, or the thread is tangled. Take the thread completely out and rethread. Also, make sure that no thread is caught in the bobbin area, if necessary take bobbin casing out and clean with a brush. Always turn the handwheel towards you, never away from you because it can mess up the timing, Also google Singer 401a there is a great blog on this machine

Singer 3820 Bobbin Issues? I can't sew!

Unthread the machine completely, remove the bobbin.

Make sure that the bobbin case is securely in its place.

Turn the handwheel and ensure that the bobbin case is not jamming.

Turn the handwheel until the take-up lever is in the highest position.

Raise the presser foot and rethread the machine.

Chaeck the upper tension setting and set it around 5.

ALways make sure that you start sewing, stop sewing and thread the machine with the TAKE-UP LEVER IN THE HIGHEST POSITION.

Good luck!

Thread bunches up under the fabric

For normal everyday fabric, tension should be 3-5.
If it is looping on the bottom, the problem is the threading of the machine. If it loops on the top then the problem is with the bobbin.
