Take off the handle and the cover piece. There is a large nut holding the cartridge in. Be careful taking it off so you do not twist the cartridge socket off the rest of the valve.

Can't get both hot water running at the same time. Delta Shower faucet

  • The spool and sleeve, the part of the Scald-Guard pressure balance valve that blends the hot and cold water, is not working properly. This can is caused by mineral deposits that build up over time resulting from hard water. To fix this, follow the steps below based on your model.
  1. Shut off water supply.
  2. There are two types of valves. Choose one or the other below depending on your series.
  • 1300-1400 Series: Remove handle.
  • 1700-1800 Series: Remove temperature knob, cover and handle.
  1. Twist and pull sleeve to remove it.
  2. Unscrew brass bonnet nut.
  3. Remove cartridge.
  4. Soak cartridge in a 50/50 vinegar and water solution for 24 hours to remove any mineral deposits.
  • **NOTE** Unless both hot and cold water supplies are turned on, the pressure balance valve will allow only a dribble of water to flow through the valve.
  • I have put up a picture to make disassembling it just that much easier for you.

Wateris not hot enough, need to know how to adjust scauldgard on faucetto getmore hot water, and less cold.

Assuming that you have sufficient hot water, you need to adjust the Scald-Guard valve. It's usually quite easy to do. The intent is to limit the amount of hot water that can be fed to to shower head or tub spout. On the 1300/1400 series faucents there is a disk behind the faucet knob/lever called the rotational limit stop. Remove the knob/lever, either by popping the cover off the knob and removing the screw with a Philips head screw driver, or removing the handle with an allen wrench. Next adjust the rotational limit stop disk clockwise to increase the limit on hot water flow. Delta claims each tooth you click past clockwise will increase the maximum water temperature by 6 degrees F.

Delta has a great FAQ on their web site. As of Jan 30, 2011, this link is valid:
http://www.deltafaucet.com/customersupport/faq/Water+Temperature/

If the rotational limit stop disk is already turned to the maximum point (clockwise), then you may have a hot water flow problem (either with the cartridge or to or in the manifold). The cartridges require a little more know-how to replace. You'll need to shut off the main water valve prior to removing the old cartridge. There are a couple of places that detail how to replace and/or service the cartridges, including a short video on youtube. I can post more details on this if you find you need to replace the cartridge.

Delta 1400 series cartridge replacement

The chrome cover needs to be unscrewed with a strap wrench or pair of pliers. Then, you can access the cartridge assembly. You may need an adjustable wrench to unscrew the cartridge.

Delta Series 1400 shower faucet, no or very little water out of the cold side of the faucet. Plenty of hot water. What can I do to fix this?

Remove the handle by opening the little red/blue cap. Use a hex key to remove the handle. Remove the tope ring holding in the cartridge in. Take out the cartridge and you will most likely see particles blocking it. make sure you use a little valve lube or vasline on the seals before you put it back in so you will have smooth operation. If that doesnt cure it just replace the cartridge at lowes or home depot and bring the old one.

Replace delta single handle shower cylinder

Yes, I believe this unit uses a cartridge right? They do fit a little tight due to the small washers on the back side of the cartridge. If this is the one I'm thinking of, there are two leg like appendenges that come off the back and fit into small holes at the back of the manifold or what some call mixing valve housing.

I installed Delta shower faucet 132900 and I could not shut the water. What did I do wrong?

Did you solder the valve in? If so you may have got it to hot. Or debris could have gotten in the valve. Turn the water off, remove the handle and cartridge. Check cartridge for damage or debris

hi roger,

Sorry Delta 1300 and 1400 series valves do not have a volume control. Kinda odd but that is how they are made.

Low pressure on Delta 1400 series shower head

The Shower Valve is regulated to give only 2.2 gallons a minute. If you have the shower head off test how many seconds to get an approximiate gallon running in the middle hot/cold position. If longer than 30 seconds either the stem in the valve is clogged or the water lines to the valve are too small or kinked.
