GE Spacemaker  Microwave Oven

GE spacemaker xl 1400, lights on bottom won't work

The other day my wife move something and the lights underneath the microwave quit working. The bulbs are still good. Is there a fuse that could have blown? The microwave still works as is the interior light.

I replaced the lights on my GE spacemaker xl and they are the correct watts. The lights work and I was happy...until I realized that the Surface Light button (that switches the light to night light/bright light/OFF) no longer worked. I now have lights that work, but will NOT turn off via the surface light button...ANY SUGGESTIONS??

Is this the correct voltage readings for these lights?
On = 120vac
Night = 10vac
Off = 8.0vac

I aske because although my lights seem to work, they do blow out frequently. If I should start a new question thread, just let me know.

I have the same problem with the non-working lights, but in addition, the control/button for the vent fan no longer works. Any ideas? Thanks.

Same problem, my lights haven't worked in several years. Tried everything! I bought a light strip and put it underneath.

To Person who answered Best Solution above,
This worked nicely thank you.
After removing my circuit board the long silver strip was intact, however where it makes the turn about quarter inch, the solder or foil seam had a break in it which I filled-gap with solder.
My guess is if the "foil" or thin 2" long strip is serving as a fuse, it would still melt again even with my solder on the shorter section, in event of overload. Also seen on the plastic area directly behind where the circuit board would mount, and where the "foil" was blown, was a small blackened area as evidence of the blown foil. 2 new bulbs and all is well again Thanks!

There is not a fuse that controls the lights. What has blown is part of the control board. If you take the circuit board off and look at the back closely you will most likely see a long silver section with the middle blown out. I thought it was solder but it appears to be some kind of foil. If you are looking for a cheap and easy fix. Go to your local autoparts store and buy a small bottle of stuff they use to repair the fine lines that defrost your rear window on your car. It conducts electricity. Paint it on to fill in the gap and overlap onto the foil on each side. I gave mine a number of coats. You may have to trim up the edges of the blown foil a little. I also painted underneath the foil edge as well as on top to make sure I had a complete circuit. Do not use the lights for 24 hours until it dries. It does not appear to conduct electricity until it is dry. This worked for me.

Does anyone know where the circuit board is located? Does the microwave have to be taken down to access it?

I have the same problem. The bulbs are good but the lights quit working like a fuse is blown. There is not any voltage across the light sockets. I looked around inside but could not find any fuses. Anyone know whrer they are located.
