Question about Yamaha HTR-5730 Receiver

2 Answers

AV Receiver I have had my HTR-5730 for a while but don't think I am getting all I can from it. I don't seem to be able to grasp the Owner's Manual. Is there a place I can get some instruction. Sort of a setup for dummies?

I have had this receiver for probably five years and have NEVER been able to operate it effectively --in fact, I can only get the sub woofer and one of the other five speakers to produce sound though all others are at least wired correctly. It doesn't help of course having lost the manual (is one available online for downloading?), but even then, I could never understand how to program and then operate it and heck, I only wish to use it to watch dvd's! It's nice to hear Lesh's bass, but to expect the Wall of Sound to come thru the one remaining speaker is pure folly--the music in my head will forever give me better sound. Worst investment in stereo I've ever made.
thanks to whomever might be listening.

Check all your wiring if some speakers are not working. One bad connection to a speaker will cause others to cut out also. Also check that all input cables are plugged all the way in. This too could cause some speakers to cut out.

When using tuner both speakers work but when using turntable one speaker is very low?

ONLY one channel low with a turntable?

Are you using a self-preamlified TT or an outboard phono preamp, because the HTR has no facility for direct attachment of an old-school TT.

It could be a turntable problem if you have phono preamplification most likely. Swap the two channels to prove it or not.

Try another input.

Humming coming from the speakers

From all speakers?

How is the audio connected to the TV (be specific)?

Keep in mind that a TV is not generally an audio source as its programming always comes from something higher up the audio food chain than itself. Get the audio to your receiver from whatever THAT is, not the TV.

Htr 5730 is DEAD, no display, will not turn on...

Pull the top off the unit. Look where the AC enters on the inside, check the fuse. It's the only one on the unit. If it's blown replace, if not, the unit needs to go to service. Hope this helps

Connecting a Yamaha VX7 Subwoofer on my Yamaha HTR 5730 AV Receiver

Hello srqwrk,

You can connect the VX7 to the 5730 using an RCA Y cable like the one shown in the picture below. You get your one connection for the receiver and 2 for the VX7. These are available at any electronics store. Remember that the cable should be long enough to go from the receiver to where subwoofer will be placed.
Hope this helps. Let me know.
