Fantom Drives 120 GB Hard Drive

I have some data on this drive I would love to get back--particularly pictures, but commercial quotes to retrieve it run from $500 to $3000! Anybody know of someone less expensive?

Thanks--their estimate for "standard" recovery (5-7 days) was $500-2700, with a minimum charge of $200 if unrecoverable.

Buyers Beware!!!! I should have my head examined for purchasing this idiotic drive for a backup. It is designed to be knocked over, standing vertially upright, and as I said, my dog knocked it over, and it screeched to a halt. Bu-bye data. I am most annoyed that I was not informed that if it fell over, everything could be permanently lost. Cheap, yeah, but an online backup like Mozy charges $4.95/mo for unlimited data storage, and it is there if your house and computer burn down.

Anyone have the skills to tinker with recovery? My pockets are not deep enough for a professional.

I had a nearly identical experience. It was not my dog who knocked over the drive but one of my children. Thereafter the drive wouldn't budge. I had heard about placing the drive in the freezer and after it has been in there a few hours, reconnect and try again. To my amazement, I was actually able to retrieve some data but all of my .jpg files are as yet inaccessible and I get a message that the drive needs to be reformatted. Of course if I do that my thousands of photos are gone forever.

I've heard of "drivesavers" as the best data retrievers in the industry. Don't know how much they charge though. Sorry.
