Question about Fuji FinePix E550 Digital Camera

Images are 'liney' whatever I do with them

Bought a re-con E550 and when taking pictures all the colours have lines going through them, espicially things in the background.
On black and white piccies it looks like you have taken the picture through a fishbowl with a set of blinds attached to the lens!
any ideas?
It's set to 6mp without raw

It sounds like I have the same issue. The camera is 3 years old and now the pictures are over exposed and have fine lines running through them. I have reset all of the settings but that did not help. I did buy an extended warranty from Mack. We'll see if it was worth the $20,,,

I had the same problem, I also had an extended warranty. I took the camera to Fuji, and they replaced the whole lens assembly. It was well worth the cost of the warranty. Ive had the camera four years now, and it still works as brand new, and I still have a year left on the warranty.

From my experience (seen dozens of them like yours), the CCD (image sensor) has gone bad. There's lots on the 'net about this unfortunate phenomenon. In short, earlier CCD's were not sealed against moisture very well. Over time some seepage occurs (doesn't take much) causing streaking (usually purple & green) and blurred images. It may occur early in the camera's life, if used in humid conditions, or it may take a year or two or three in normal conditions. I forgot to mention that there is no fix, except for major parts replacement. If it's under warranty (or you have an extended warranty), it should be fixed at N/C. If out of warranty, enough jumping up and down at the service facility may persuade them to fix this "known defect" at little or no cost to you. They know of the defect, they just don't want to fess up to it.

Hi there,
Save hours of searching online or wasting money on unnecessary repairs by talking to a 6YA Expert who can help you resolve this issue over the phone in a minute or two.

Best thing about this new service is that you are never placed on hold and get to talk to real repairmen in the US.

Printing liney and wrong colours

Faults like this would typically be down to a partially blocked/dried printhead and easily resolved with cleans. If however repeated cleans have not improved the situation I would recommend contacting Kodak directly. They should be able to help you to determine whether is is genuinely a dry ink issue or if it is a mechanical problem with the printhead (that are pretty common with this range).

Olympus X-42 less than 2 yrs old, hardly used. When switched on to take a picture I get a series of coloured (pink, purple etc.) vertical lines on the LCD screen and when I take a picture, the camera...

If the lines are on the images when viewed on the computer then its likely that the cameras sensor is the problem. This is a tricky part to get to as its the heart of the system. Might be time to get a new camera as replacing the sensor will be far more expensive ($150-200+) than a new camera. I had a look on ebay and they are going for less than $50 as they are an old camera now.
Ive replaced my Olympus with a Sony Cybershot W830, 20mp and 8x zoom, direct from Sony for $150.

I was recently given the FinePix E550 by someone who had purchased a newer camera. I do not have the usb cord to download pix and my Dell 942 All-in-One will not recognize the camera card. What do I need...

The problem you are experiencing with your Fuji FinePix E550 could be down to a number of reasons.

You do not say the memory card size you are using but the Dell 942 will probably only read cards xD-Picture Cards 1Gb or lower.

It maybe a better idea to remove the xD card from the camera and use a USB card reader to take the images off the card. Alternatively you could buy a replacement USB cable

Hope the suggestions help.
