same problem .always says batery low and will shut down after a few seconds.

have tried all types of batterys and even tested new batteries with a volt meter to prove it is not the battery.

definetly a problem with the camera.

wondering if a software update will help.

I also faced the same problem. But When I used Duracell AA batteries the problem was solved. But the problem continued with other batteries like Rayovac

Are you using alkaline batteries? If so, consider rechargeable NiMH AA batteries instead. Digital cameras are notorious alkaline battery eaters. By comparison, modern NiMH rechargeable batteries will last much longer per use/charge than ANY alkaline battery (up to 5 times longer). If you don't have them, get them, you won't regret it. Look for a power rating on the package of at least 2,500 mah.

How to change kind of batteries when camera won't stay on to get to menu

My experience is the batteries have not made any difference. It asks you to have to turn off the camera and remove lens cap. When that is done, its the same issue. Currently my Nikon's lens is out and no matter what batteries I place it in it won't come on! Had to purchase a Sony to replace it! Wish you luck but the batteries don't seem to make a difference.

Is the lens totally stuck? Does it even move a little? Did you try to power cycle the camera?

It seems your camera Lens got stuck in open condition, This will happens due to two reason.

1) Either your camera battery got died or need to be recharged or replace.
2) Your camera is malfunctioning and need service (repair).

To resolve the problem. first check battery indicator on your camera, If battery indicator shows battery low, than you need to charge it or you need to replace your battery.

Follow the instruction to retract camera lens:-
1) Turn on your camera.
2) Press the Playback button on the back of your camera. The lens on your camera should retract.

If problem still not resolved then your device need to be serviced (Repair).

Rating the solution is highly appreciated...Good Luck.

"battery depleated" even with new batteries

Well,in my experience, usually some kind of impact or other damage to the lens has led to this problem. Dirt, sand, water damage, or an impact of some sort...usually leads to this kind of problem.
You can try to pull or push on the lens as it is turned on. Sometimes you may be able to re-align the lens on it's tracks. Sometimes this cannot happen because of some parts which are broken.

No matter what batteries I buy camera will no longer take a pic.

This camera is noteworthy for this problem. Only non-rechargeable batteries seemed to work, and that gets expensive! But the solution for me was simple. You have to spend a little more money upfront, and get high capacity (e.g. 2450 mAh) batteries. You should be able to get those at Target or Walmart. The 2100 mAh ones just won't do the job.

Using the cheap, low capacity rechargeable batteries, I could only get a few shots off. With the high capacity ones, I can do 40 or so easily.
