Unreliable drive. Remove and hit with a sledgehammer. Trust me. Do it now before u lose all your data. The 3200's are nothing but trouble. Did u know they use seagate hard drives?

My desk top crashed and I have all my files backed up on a Maxtor 3200. How do I down load my backup files from my Maxtor 3200 to my new lap top. I can't find any paper work for it.

Hi,

Just plug into your laptop and find the drive for it, then enter into the files that you want to put on your laptop.
Copy and paste these files into your laptop hard drive, don't cut and paste just copy and paste them.

That way you will always have them incase your laptop should go down.

Hope this helped.

Thanks

My Dell computer does not recognize my 3200 hard drive and when I took it to the shop they said there was a problem but couldn't fix it. I just want to get the files loaded on the 3200. James Hodges

Put hard drive in another computer and set as "slave" if not SATA. Start computer and access hard drive from windows as a separate drive, as you would a floppy or CD and retrieve data.

Try a different USB port in your computer.

Try to connect the drive to a different computer.
If it does not connect, then either:
* the USB-to-disk-drive adapter inside the case has died,
* the disk-drive inside the adapter has died.

If the former, you can open the case, remove the disk-drive,
and temporarily connect it to another computer, and copy all the files
onto the other computer, or burn some CD/DVD disks.

If the latter, then only a professional (and expensive) "Data Recovery Service" can repair the disk-drive, and extract your files.

Maxtor 3200

Try connecting the Maxtor to another computer and if it functions normally, then backup your data. Then try formating the Maxtor on your computer.

Maxtor personal storage 3200 problem!!!

First, try another USB Cable. If that does not work properly then I would suspect the box or the drive has failed. If you just bought it, return it to the store and complain. They may replace it. As for your data?

Now if you want to become techie you can remove the hard drive from the box and attach it to you computer either copy the files back if you do not have them on your computer or format the drive if you have your files. Then put the drive back in the box and try to get a refund or buy a different external. I like a metal box with an AC cord plug. Best of luck.

I backed up my old Dell laptop last year. I bought a new Dell laptop. I want to access the backup on my Maxtor and cannot do it. I want to load it onto my new laptop. How do I do this? I want to back up...

Very Simple. Just connect the Maxtor External Hard drive to your new laptop. Open Windows Explorer and you will see the Maxtor appearing as a Drive. Access the files from the explorer.
My advice is that create a new folder on the maxtor and then do a backup of your new laptop on to this new folder.
DO the same for your office PC.

That happens when your computer was infected by virus, have it scan, it will be good if you can use different scanner aside from what is installed in your computer.

Maxtor access (pc and MAC)

Yes, formatting included erasing the drive and renewing the partition. If you want the drive legible on pc, but will be working in both environments, then you can do 1 of 2 things....

easiest, purchase MACDRIVE, it will allow a pc computer to see and use Mac items on the drive.

You could also transfer the content to another drive temporarily, format the drive in question to MS-DOS, then transfer all that content back over...using a MAC to do so.....

keep me posted..
