Is it receiving faxes? Make sure you have the line in the right place in the back of the machine (line) and that you get dial tone (hit the monitor button if it has one). Try calling it on your cell to see if it picks up. You may have a poor phone line conditon, and you could try to slow the modem speed down or check the ECM (Error Correction Mode) if so. If it's a jamming problem, try to run a copy and see if it feeds ok. If not try cleaning the feed/pick up rollers with mild soap and water. Reseat the paper and try it again.

I checked all the connections. There was a dial tone and I am able to receive faxes. I loaded the paper again and all of the sudden it went through.

My mom's problem is similar to the "check cover error" posted on your troubleshooting page for this model. After fixing a paper jam, the machine never returned to normal operation mode. There is no date/time display and it keeps indicating to check cover, check film, etc. Any ideas how to reset this thing so it start to work normally again? Thanks.

I actually have a Sharp UX-510A fax, but I couldn't find it on the list. And when I typed in the model info, it would allow me to "submit" this request for help. Geesh! I have tried changing the brand of the 20# bond paper.... didn't help. Then I put in a new roll of film... still sticks. Are the internal "cogs" not advancing and pulling the used film around the roller?
