Vertical White Band on LCD Laptop

I have a Gateway 7422 laptop. The laptop was dropped and is experiencing a vertical band from POST to Windows.I have opened up the laptop and checked the ribbon cable at both ends. I have connected to a external monitor and have experienced a normal screen. I tried replacing the entire screen with used one purchased on e-bay. When booting with new LCD I get only a completely white screen. When windows loads the screen is faint with multiple multicolor lines. I reinstalled the old screen and the old screen is clear with only the original band issue. Three questions for you...
What causes the white band?
Is the replacement screen faulty?
Can parts from either screen be canniblized to correct problem in either screen?
I am A+ certifed on desktop repair but cannot find any resources to troubleshoot or correct problem

Re: Vertical White Band on LCD Laptop

Your new LCD is faulty. The band on your old one is the end of it I am affraid.
Laptop LCD's although built to take a beating (or so it seems) are extremely fragile. It only take a very small drop to end their lives.

That is the symptom of failed T-CON board (part of the LCD panel assembly, new panel will be needed), you can try reseating the ribbon connector on the LCD panel first.
This what T-CON board looks like:

A big white vertical static band appears as soon a i turn on the power

Some of the transistors or the connection to the panel inside the monitor are damaged. There is no absolute fix for this problem.

You can try pushing on the bezel (NOT ON THE SCREEN) of the monitor at the edge of the screen directly at the lines and you may be able to push the connection back together well enough that the line goes away, but usually in desktop monitors the bezel is too rigid to allow you to put any pressure on the connections at the back of the LCD panel.

Sound like the vertical deflection circuit is defrctive. Check for cold solder around the vertical IC, Check the Diode and cap that supply power to the Vertical IC. If it still do not work, change out/ replace the virtical IC.

Wide vertical black and white bands

Hi, You may want to try and unplugging the power and video connectors of the Dell monitor. Check for anything out of the ordinary with the AC plug and the video connector. If none, plug them back in making sure that they are snug and fitted properly. If problem persist, see if it is possible to rotate the way the AC plug is connected to the mains (sometimes this works and can be done if you are not using 3-prong or the uneven 2-prong AC plug. Sometimes, this can also be done on the other end of the AC plug). Check your docking station (though unlikely but possibly). If still a no go and your laptop works ok, then your external monitor needs some looking at. This would involve circuit analysis and component level repair. Perhaps your best bet is to have a qualified professional take a look at it. Good luck and pls post back how things turn up or if you need further information. Kind regards.

Vertical band on new monitor

Without a second thought, send it back.
When you say the monitor has not be dropped, wht you are really saying is it has not been dropped by you.
There were alot of hands involved in getting it from the production line to your house.
At any stage it could have been dropped or given some form of impact (normally in transit)
That fault is in the panel itself and cannot be fixed.
