Vertical White Band on LCD Laptop

Hullo...
I have a Gateway 7422 laptop. The laptop was dropped and is experiencing a vertical band from POST to Windows.I have opened up the laptop and checked the ribbon cable at both ends. I have connected to a external monitor and have experienced a normal screen. I tried replacing the entire screen with used one purchased on e-bay. When booting with new LCD I get only a completely white screen. When windows loads the screen is faint with multiple multicolor lines. I reinstalled the old screen and the old screen is clear with only the original band issue. Three questions for you...
What causes the white band?
Is the replacement screen faulty?
Can parts from either screen be canniblized to correct problem in either screen?
I am A+ certifed on desktop repair but cannot find any resources to troubleshoot or correct problem

My laptop has the same thing, it has just a blank white block across the screen starting about 2 thirds of the way down, and its covered in little multi coloured lines. at the moment nothings worked, i've done system restore but that doesn't solve it, the block of colour is even there in the start up of the laptop, can this be easily fixed? its outside of the warranty period.

Your new LCD is faulty. The band on your old one is the end of it I am affraid.
Laptop LCD's although built to take a beating (or so it seems) are extremely fragile. It only take a very small drop to end their lives.

Dell XPS laptop (purchased in 2007) has a vertical band of horizontal white lines just left of center. Do you know what the cause of this is?

It is most probably the lcd screen itself but it could be the Graphics card. It should be tested in a shop.

Vertical white wide band - Shivering fonts

Unfortunately that sound like a defective LCD panel. You can verify this by plugging the system into an external monitor. As long as the shimmering band does not appear on external display then it is the LCD. If it is under warranty I would suggest taking it into Apple.

What is the error from installing xp sp3?
Is the white band always there? it is either a problem with the lcd panel most likely, or the graphics card. try a different monitor if you have one.

Vertical band on new monitor

Without a second thought, send it back.
When you say the monitor has not be dropped, wht you are really saying is it has not been dropped by you.
There were alot of hands involved in getting it from the production line to your house.
At any stage it could have been dropped or given some form of impact (normally in transit)
That fault is in the panel itself and cannot be fixed.
