The most likely cause for this problem is the thermal fuse, or high limit as it is called. They are designed to blow if the temperature gets to a dangerous level. The excessive heat is usually caused by a lack of airflow over the element, the culperate for this is usually excessive lint somewhere in the venting system. It could be the dryer hose, the vent cap, but also could be within the dryer. I've seen it packed in the area just passed the lint filter packed so tight I had to scrape it out with a putty knife and then wash out the rest. This can also be caused by a damaged blower motor wheel (lack of airflow, which will overheat the dryer and blow the high limit) though the blower wheel is usually the least likely problem.
Generally it is a blockage in the venting system or used with lots of cloths and a plugged lint filter that causes the high limit to blow. The high limit fuses aren't expensive. Get the model and serial of your dryer and check the web for high limit/thermal fuse, they cost approximately 12-25 dollars.
A simple continuity test with a test light or multimeter will tell you if it is good or not. (fuse) MAKE SURE IT IS UNPLUGGED if/when you try this. They are located on the back of the unit under the back cover towards the bottom. Most units have 8 or so screws holding the back plate on.
Hope that helps.
