Question about Sony KV-32V26 32" TV

1 Answer

Loss of power

My ~9 yr old Sony KV-32V26 suddenly will not turn on. It acts exactly as if unplugged (although it is plugged in to a verified working outlet). A buddy of mine who used to repair TVs told me to check the fuse on the power board which appeared to be intact. He took a look inside the cabinet and said it looks as if the power board may be bad. How can I go about troubleshooting/repairing the powerboard without getting the entire board replaced?

Re: Loss of power

My experiance is to not put money into a TV that is over ten years old. TVs stress out their electronic components worse than almost any other electronic product. After 10 years, there are so many parts that are ready to fail that your are probably wasting your money trying to get any more life out of it.
Be careful on buying a new one though. Often times, they are much worse. Always Google the model number of the set you intend to buy and add the word 'repair' or 'complaint' to see if it is one of the many models that are customer service nightmares being produced by even the most reputable companies today.
But if you really want to repair it - sells the whole main board for about $170
Also might check with Module Exchange at 972-298-1212

Our Sony tv is acting up....first it had no sound....then wouldn't change no sound or picture and turns off right after you turn it on?

I feel your sony is going to need another power supply in it or have the power suppply reworked. You might have bad eletrolytic capacitors in it that is causing this issue. That is what it sounds like when you said first the sound did not work then the remote did not work until total failure.

You might want to take that down to the tv repair shop and have them look at the power supply.

Sony KV-32V26 turned off while watching, now I can't turn it on

I have a set I'm working on right now, same model number and symptoms. It is a fairly common problem and the repair consists of replacing 3 transistors, one resistor and one VDR (voltage dependent resistor), along with re-soldering some connections on the main PC board. You'll need a technician to do the work, and it will likely be well over $100 to repair. I would consider replacing the set with a HDTV model if you can afford to. The picture tube may be the next to go.

No Power

Hi: That could be the power cord itself shorting out right near where it plugs into the set.

DO NOT hesitate removing the plug from the AC wall plug, since fires have started this way!!

If its the cord you can replace it or if its inside the set it will need repair.

1. Place set on flat solid surface (garage floor or driveway).
2. Bang into it with SUV 3 or 4 times.
3. If set fails to respond, crush against garage wall or drive over it

Sony tv kv-36fs120 will not turn on

Use a hair dryer on the back right side of unit. Humidity sensor may be causing the unit to stay off. The hair dryer may also remove dust causing a false humidity detection

Do you mean basic CABLE channels or Aerial channels? If aerial, what kind of antenna are you using (you must have SOME sort of antenna... rabbit ears, set-top, etc...)?
