Pentax Optio S not functioning

Power it up with a freshly charged Battery and green light comes on, but 75% of the time the lens will not extend. when lens does extend can get 1-2 pict off before it stops functioning. When powering down same problem getting lens to retract. New fully charged battery has done nothing to improve situation.

lens won't retract. makes sound and green light comes on briefly when you try to turn it on/off, but no image on display and nothing moves. can't download the pix from the memory card either. freshly charged battery does nothing. no clue what to do.

I have the same problem with my Pentax Optio S. When the battery if fully charged, the lens will not extend from the camera. It is stuck in the closed position. Everything else seems to indicate if the lens could extend it, it would work OK. Any fixes that I can attempt to do to manually open the lense? I know after reading that this is a similar problem with this camera and would think that there would be a fix...I welcome any suggestions or ideas. Thank you

I don't know if it would help but try to update the firmware for the camera.

I believe the Optio S firmware is limited to reading 2gb SD cards. This problem happens consistently with my 4gb or more cards, but with no SD card or a 2gb it works fine (even to the point that if you remove the large SD card while it is erroring, it will recover and work as normal) So... considering that there is no firmware update to the Optio S we are limited to 2gb SD cards. But god I still love this camera! I can live with 2gb

I had the same thing happen to me with my pentax optio. You may have to large of an SD memory card. Or you could have the wrong type of card. I would recomemd that you use a 512mb SD card. Not the SDHC card. Also i would make sure that the battaries are fully charged. Hope this helps you out!

Lens extends after power, then buzzes, then goes back in and shuts off. It was working not too long ago. And I haven't dropped it. But I just tried to use it and it doesn't want to work. The battery seems...

I couldn't fix my Pentax Optio S10, but this is the best web site I found to address the problem we both have with lens extending, buzzing, then shutting off. I took my camera apart, and found that my lens was cracked around the edges.
