Tv will not magic focus, there are two curved

55vg825 MODEL DOES NOT HAVE MAGIC FOCUS.
that is a DLP 2005 model.

I am going to make a guess---by the way it is a good idea here to post the actual model number in your description as this saves time and gets you more responses--


If set has magic focus and convergence will not move or is skewed--one or both of the two convergence Ic's this set uses is bad.

Normal life is 5-8 years--a grease to transfer heat from the chips dries out and one overheats and fails.

Most of the Hitachi sets use either 2 STK-392-110 OR 2 STK-392-150 CHIPS---they are the same but the 150 lasts longer.

BOTH chips will need to be replaced if this is the case and any protect resistors around them that are bad also replaced (most of the time just the chips and or 1 resistor need to be replaced.)

Once this is done the set will not have this problem again for 5-8 years.

Depending on your actual model number I may be able to give you general instructions and tell you what you will need if you do the repair yourself.

Keep in mind: usual cost for parts for this repair is about 25 dollars---I can tell you the best place to buy the chips---if you do it yourself there are sites that sell "kits" but for the most part they are much more expensive and most of the parts are not needed.

If you cannot do it shops get 300-400 for this kind of repair---and many will not do it in your home--any good tech can do in home in about 1 hour---I have done hundreds of them 200-250 depending on the set.

This is a convergence chip problem and needs technical intervention to unsoloder and replace. There are also some capictors in open citcuit that will also need replacing. Not a DIY. Cost of repair approx $300
