Memory Card Error

Hi
I recently got this camera and it's literally the third time I've used it and it won't let me take pictures or view them because it says there's a memory card error. What must I do to fix it? Please help... I'm really disappointed in this camera.

The SD card has a lock switch to prevent existing data from being erased. To record images or movies this switch must be in the normal (non lock) position. Different brands of SD memory cards may identify this switch differently. Regardless the procedure should be the same. Try removing the card from the camera and be sure that the switch is not in the locked position.

If this does not fix the problem, try to reformat your memory card. Remember this will erase all pictures! On the menu function, click the tools icon, then click the icon that should have a *.*MB next to it (looks like a square with a starburst).

Push function/select, and proceed to reformat.

Unfortunately, the next step is to have the camera sent in for repair!

Try NOT connecting your camera to your computer.

The best way to download pictures from your camera to your computer involves removing the memory card from the camera and plugging it into a card reader (either built-in to the computer or connected via USB or FireWire). This is likely to be faster than connecting the camera to the computer, and won't run down your camera's batteries.

Once the card is plugged in, it will appear to your computer as a removable drive. You can use the operating system's drag&drop facility to copy pictures from the card to the computer's hard drive, the same way you copy any other files. Or you can use any photo cataloging program.

SD Card Problems with Vivitar Vivicam 5118!

What size is the memory card. If it's larger than 4GB then it won't work in the 5118.
Try using another card. Don't format it in your computer but do format it in the camera before trying to take pictures.

My camera says the memory card is locked and memory card error appears when I turn on the camera. I've read that I have to format the card, but won't the photos be destroyed? How can I get my pictures

There is a tab on the memory card so you will you need to remove it from the camera and change the position of this tab to "unlock" it. DO NOT format the card until you've BACKED UP your files from it (typically to a PC or USB drive (stick or external hard drive).

My Sony DSC-S930 camera says file error?

Get a card reader and use it to download to a folder you create on your desktop. If that doesn't get you all of your pics, take the card to a Walmart store and use their picture kiosk machines to print the pics or even make a CD of them. Once the pics are safe, you can format the card in the camera to get it erased and back to original condition.

The camera takes SD cards up to 2GB (not SDHC cards). If you've been taking pictures using the camera's internal memory, you must first get rid of those pics. With no card in the camera, go into the menu and find "format" and follow the on-screen instructions. Then, insert your new card and go through the "format" routine again to prepare the new card.

Hi

Markar

Well make sure if its the same card which is in accordance with your camera manufacturer.

If this is the same chip you had used comfortably in the same camera earlier then probably it is the problem with the socket of the chip which needs cleaning. You can clean it if you can reach the pins of the socket with Iso-propae Alcho. then try to insert the same chip back and it will sure read/write it.

I want to transfer pictures from my laptop to the memory card in my Coolpix

You'll have to use a card reader. Despite the name, a card reader also lets you write to the card. Be aware that if the pictures were taken on a different type camera, or if you've done any editing on them, you probably won't be able to view them on the camera.
