Question about Televison & Video

1 Answer

Shrinking screen. I have a 12 year old Toshiba 2877DB TV which works fine for awhile then starts having flickering black lines across the bottom of the screen. These become worse, after awhile a solid black line develops across the bottom and gets wider until the picture is shrunk into the top half of the screen. Sometimes after this point the screen will suddenly just blank out completely.

I think this will be helpful. I just have not had time to apply it as yet.

Mitswubishi VS-5077 TV - Display would work and flicker to black screen. We would wait awhile try again.....picture would work and then flicker and go to black screen. Now black screen w/ only volu

The most common issue here in the old sets is bad solder connections--the problem is you have to get the entire chassis free and up so bottom of boards face rear of set---look to power supply---a lot of 2 and 3 lead parts there from heat come loose from the boards and also to the middle of the set on the middle board.

If you are not able to attempt this the set is too old for a shop repair in my view as many parts for it are no longer available.

My Sony Bravia KDL 40WL 135 TV has been flashing strange colors for awhile; today screen is black with a thin blue line across the bottom. No sound. Any help appreciated.

The vertical output section circuit has the fault. Contact any experienced service technician. This is not a user repairable fault.

I've had my Toshiba 46RV530U less than 2 years,

Diana, did you ever find a solution? My Toshiba (same model) is about 2 years old and it started getting these 4 horizontal lines spaced pretty far apart and a double image at bottom. When I lightly tap the top of the TV, they went away. But now that is not working. Please let me know. Thanks.

Intense white & coloured horizontal line on black background on startup

I wouldn't attempt as the capacitors on a tv store around 25000 volts this is more than enough to kill you and they keep there charge even when the tv is off. Either take it to a repair shop or put that money towards buying a new tv - Do not even attempt to open the tv. (It sounds like maybe a tube has gone or the electromagnet that makes the beam move vertically is gone.
