Screen freezes and shows crazy purple colors in the screen or pink horizontal lines. The one time it shuts itself down, the other i have to use the on/off button to shut it down. When restarting it gives me 2 options: start regularly or go to restore. Both will bring me back to windows, but it fails again after minutes or hours. Acer aspire 5520G

Screen is going crazy

Okay, it could be two things, 1.) Your graphics card is either overheated or going out. 2.) it's possible you have a messed up display screen. I'd try looking at your computer display settings and see if you can calibrate the color on your screen to see if it helps or not.

Pink/Blue horizontal line on TV

Considering it is a 32 inch set and costs now under 300 dollars it may or may not be worth fixing.

To give an educated guess: either whatever it uses for an inverter board may be bad or damaged OR even the main board that processes all signal into or out to the screen may have either a bad connection(unlikely but possible) or be causing this.

A fatal issue could be something wrong in the screen unit (panel) itself.

I gather set is not under any warranty at this time.

System will overheat and not function properly, screen displays for 10 minutes then purple/pink colors appear and the system freezes and will not show anything until it cools

Make sure it is in a well ventilated area, and if that doesnt cool it down buy a fan cooler from best buy, its basically two to three fans that hook to the back of the console to cool it down.

My iBook is Sad.

I would connect another monitor to it, if you see the same on the monitor, the videocard/GPU is toast, if not , the onboard display is.

Camera showing/taking distorted images

According to many respected sources with far more expertise than myself, the symptoms you are describing also fall within the realm of Canon CCD failure. In Canon's Service Notice: CCD Image Sensor Advisory, they outline the most common symptoms (distorted images, LCD showing only a black screen, etc.). They have conveniently limited the description to the bare minimum. More symptoms of the failing CCD include: pictures appearing on LCD show up with severe color variations (pink-purplish or green tint), colored "streaks" or "lines" throughout pictures, and wavy distortions in image. Most of these symptoms include the color variations, but not always. The lines or waves can appear in any direction and with varying degrees of severity. Some LCDs do not go black, but turn totally purple. Here is a link to a very informative article that should clear up any questions you might have.
Digital Camera Repair Blog

If nothing else, call the Canon Customer Support Center at 1-800-828-4040. They will ask questions to identify whether or not you are having the same symptoms as described in the Product Advisory. I have been through this twice, and both times they were very nice and very helpful. Even if you don't qualify for the free repair, it didn't cost a thing to find out.
I hope this has been helpful.

Shooting mode will not operate

Your camera has a defective CCD imager. Please return the camera to Canon in New Jersey and they will replace the CCD at no charge to you. This is a known issue and should be covered under extended warranty. Good luck my friend. Joe Weibel customelectronics.org
