Re: backlight problem

If this is a new laptop, then I am guessing you are using it on battery, and you may have some power save setting turned on that is dimming the screen...

Take a look at your power settings under control panel...

My screen has a pinkish overtone, when I restart everything looks normal for a few seconds after I log into my name and then it goes red again. Everything works fine, but it pretty much hurts my eyes.

That means the backlight on your LCD display is on its last legs. I say that but I have had laptops with the pink screen that lasted like that for over a year. Or, it might go dark tomorrow. It is not the inverter, which is an easy fix. Only a replacement of the backlight (a flourescent tube built into the display panel) will fix it. So Replace the backlight at repair shops...THANK YOU

No display on screen

It's either the backlight lamp or screen inverter is busted. Here's how to determine which is which:
  1. Grab a flashlight.
  2. Boot up.
  3. Shine the flashlight onto the screen.
  4. If you cannot see any display even a faint one, the screen inverter is dead, else the backlight lamps are busted.
  5. Replace which ever is the culprit.

Backlight wont stay on

The inverter board which provides the backlight power isn't working properly. This is a pretty common problem with LCD screens. The inverter is in the display, mounted under the display panel. It's a fairly simple job to replace the inverter. You have to remove the screws holding the front of the display to the back and separate the pieces. The inverter is held in place by a couple of screws and has a couple of cables connecting it to the main board and display panel. Unplug those, remove the inverter, mount the replacement and plug the cables back in. Then reassemble the display. A search on Google for "acer 5315 inverter" turned up several sources for the replacement part. Here is one. I don't know anything about this seller; I just picked it as an example.

Laptop screen goes blank at random times.

Defective CCFL backlight may has the following symptom:
  • Screen flashs on red/pink and off.
  • Picture stays on in red and slowly be come normal.
  • Picture flickering with dim display.
  • Picture flickering on and off.
All these symptoms indicate that the LCD backlight lamp (CCFL Lamp)
has reached the end of the life and all you need to do is replacing the CCFL lamp.

Screen goes dark after about 5 min

No if it was the backlight bulb it wouldn't stay on for five minutes. Could you replace it yourself, maybe it would be an advanced repair.

The problem to me sounds like it is the powersaver setting, right click on the desktop goto properties
goto the screen settings tab and click the power button. then set it up to turn off when you want it too.

Screen is dark

It would seem that your backlight is not turning on.
First check to see if the switch that detects that the lid closed is working. I am not sure where it is on this model, but all notebooks have one. If it gets stuck, the backlight stays off.

If it is not the switch, it may be the flourescent backlight
tubes or the inverter, It's not an easy fix, but you can check back here.
