My dell inspiron 6000 just shown a screen flicker in red and everything vanished, i immediatly switched off and kept it off over night, next day it started up and did the same after 3 hours, i had to keep it off again for a day coz it wont boot up, this happened twice, and now the damn thing is dead, after pressing the power switch, 'A' starts to flash and every thing winds down, i checked fan and stuff, everything seems to be wroking fine, there is no power issue, batt is good, no idea of what has happened?
Just a thought on this. Is it possible that the fan vents are plugged up and the machine is unable to cool. Now keep in mind the fact that it now it wont boot at all. Overheating of the CPU has limits so to speak. The CPU may be damaged. Bottomline here is................be sure that the fan can vent heat out of your machine.

Have you tried this: 1. After removing the battery 2. Press and hold the power button for at least 10 sec. 3. Put back the battery 4. Turn it on
if this doesnt work, there could be a problem with your operating system. Try accessing safe mode if you can login .TAP F8 continously on the dell logo screen, and it will open advance boot options. (Just select safe mode) If safe mode boots properly try running system restore to restore it back to the previous date where your computer is still booting to windows. Hope this helps
this is common within your product series. i actually havent seen one that doesnt do that. it either means the battery is dead or the motherboard is bad. and im starting to lean tword motherboard only because this is such a comon problem. and even after people buy new batteries, it still does it. so i believe its your motherboard.
You can also pick up the batteries less expensive than most computer places at batteries plus. And yes it sounds as though it is the batteries charge is getting low, especially if it runs fine when the battery is out and you have it plugged in.
