Question about Kenmore 4292x Front Load Washer

Washer filled up with water when not turned on

I leave the door to my washer open so it can dry out after I'm done using it. I hadn't used it in a few days, and when I went to do a load today, I discovered the drum filled with water and overflowing all over the floor. I closed the door and ran a Drain & Spin to drain the tub (after I shut the water valves off). After I cleaned up the mess, I turned the valves back on and ran a load and it worked fine. Any ideas what might have happened?

Thank you. My husband also thought it might be a one time occurrence, but I've still been turning the water valves off, just in case. My washer is a Kenmore HE3, Mdl. 110.45872 400. I'd be interested in knowing how to replace the valve if this happens again.

Thank you for the fix-it directions. I will try to post again after my husband finds the time to do this. Till then, it's turn the water valves off and on. (Hope I don't wear them out! ha)

We have a stacked Maytag Neptune with exactly the same issue and it has happened several times. We now leave the front load door open whenever the washer is not in use and cycle to drain it whenever we find it. It is very intermittent so we turn the wall valves off when we leave for a few days for insurance.

I will search Maytag for the issue there.

Drum fills with water when not being used!  Open door and out comes the water!  Had it repaired once, but problem is back.  Have resorted to turning off water tap.

The water valve on the washer did not close properly and is leaking past the seal. It is possible that it was a one time event and won't happen again, but most likely you will need to replace the valve. It will probably get worse as time goes on.
They are fairly simple to replace on most washers. If you will post the complete model number of the washer I will try to post instructions on how to repair it. Turn your supply valves off when you are not using the washer until you get it replaced.

Remove the 3 screws at the rear of the machine holding the top. The top will slide back and lift off. Remove the hoses to the machine and the hose from the valve that goes to the dispenser. Unplug the wiring connectors from the valve. Remove the screw holding the valve to the rear panel of the washer and remove the valve.

The part# is 8181694. You can order it from sears or any whirlpool parts dealer.

Either you have a short somewhere or a ghost messing with you. I'd call the repair man before the priest.

Do you need to keep the door open when not being used. i know some models require that.

There's no special requirement that you need to keep the door open. But, If you keep it closed after your done washing, some water is usually left behind and if you don't wash for a few days it could make the first few loads have a certain musty odor. I always leave the door open for a few days to dry out the insides then close the door and I haven't noticed the musty smell. Good luck.

My front load LG Washer has a mildew/musty odor. I have taken great care of this washer since the purchase in September 2004. I cannot get rid of this odor and now it is in my clothes. I have been using...

Make about 3 quarts of boiling water on the stove. Pour one cup of bleach, and a few capfuls of pine sol into the washer (just pour them directly into the washer through the front door.) Now, if you have a faucet near the washer, turn on the hot water until the water is hot- then turn it off.

Now start a "hot" load, and after the water starts to fill, pause it, and add the really hot stove water. This will raise the water level high enough to wash off all the gunk that has built up between the spinning inner barrel of the washer and the outer barrel in which it sits.

For future reference... only use HE detergent, never use liquid fabric softener, always take the clothes out as soon as possible after the load is finished, and leave the door open when you are done.

Front loaders are kind of known for this problem.

When machine is not in use, with door open, tub will have water

You have a faulty fill valve

If you want to check which one, try turning off the cold supply only before you go to bed

If the washer has water in it next morning it is the hot valve that has gone faulty if it is dry then it is the cold one

They are easy to change and can be bought from a number of suppliers

Kenmore HE4T Washer Leak

there are 2 possible causes.
inlet valve leaking - turn water off and if water fill stops, it indicates valve leaking
valve being powered when machine off. this is very unlikely but to check, disconnect washer and see if problem stops
also, if drain is plumbed into a spigot on the sink trap, every time you empty the sink, some of the water will flow into the machine. to cure this, take the drain hose as high as possible under the sink in a swan neck

all front loads all brands have same issue with mold people today tend to use less bleach CHLORINE BLEACH that is ..allow machine to fill with hot water normal wash pour 2 cups CHLORINE BLEACH in water allow to wash a few min to mix open door and with cloth wash inside of door gasket be sure to roll gasket back and wash underneath lip allow to finish complete cycle should remove most of mold try to this every few months..also leave door open between use to allow moisture to dry out as much as possible like i said YOU ARE NOT ALONE

Washer filled up with water when not turned on

It sounds like the water inlet valve assembly is letting a trickle of water thru when its not supposed to. It is located on the rear of the washer, it is the part the water hoses connect to. Make sure the power and water are turned off, then disconnect the water fill hoses. The valve is attached to a bracket, the valve will have 4 electrical selenoids on it and a hose leading further into the machine. Make a drawing of where the wires/colors were attached before you pull them off. The valve for that machine (MLG2000AWW or MLG2000AXW) usually costs about $45.00 to $55.00

There's usually a little drain hole tucked away out of sight at the lowest point of the gusset between the inner and outer seals. Before you try anything else, suggest you check this hasn't got blocked with wet lint (the place I'm trying to describe is the bit that's filling up with manky water). A.
