Question about Speed Queen AWS52NW Top Load Washer
This post is a bit of a "Hail Mary".
I am in Australia and the machine is a Model LWK74 manufactured by Speed Queen and marketed by Kleenmaid in this country. It was bought in 2000. The AWS52NW is the nearest American equivalent that I have been able to find. (corrections accepted).
The problem is a "dry bearing" type of noise when the machine is in spin cycle. There is no noise during the wash cycle. It appears to be coming from either the top bearing just under the bowl, or the gearbox. There is also a leak from the tub seal. I know I am going to have to call the repair guy but I want to learn as much as I can about how this machine comes apart so that I can be sure I am not being ripped off. These guys charge like a Malley bull. (Thats Oz for wild bull).
The amount of information available in Oz on the internal details of this machine is zero, zilch, nada, NOTHING!!
If anyone can provide me with the correct equivalent model number it will make my search easier. Also, any other advice would be gratefully appreciated.
I await your reply with baited breath and offer my thanks in advance
It is a pleasure for me to offer some assistance to users all over the world. The problem you are describing to me is a very common for any amana, speed queen washers. The tub seal leaks and washes the lubricant from the upper bearing making the roaring noise in spin. The bearing needs replacement now, also the tub seal comes as a kit to rebuild all the sealing surfaces. It also does require a complete dissasembly to install the new kit plus the bearing. I would charge 3 hours labor @ 75/hr and the parts would be around $100 for the hub-n-seal kit and the bearing. However you may want to consider a new machine with a better warranty (extended warranties are a MUST these days......BUY ONE with any new appliance. Hope this helps let me know if you have any questions. Unfortunatly these Speed queen design washer have a myriad of design problems and this is only one of them.

Kleenmaid Model LWK74 has water leak directly under front of machine. Leaking during last stages of washing cycle.Sometimes it does not leak so bad and depends on size of the load washed.
