Refrigerator gets too warm, then too cold, back and forth...

My Frigidaire, (Model No. FRT16CRHWO, Serial No. LA92428658), is really acting up! The freezer (on top) works fine, but the food in the upper refrigerator compartment sometimes freezes as well. This goes on for 2-3 days, then all of a sudden it seems to cycle out, and the whole refrigerator gets way too warm (49-50 degrees), and there is water trailing out the floor under the fridge. Then after 3- 4 days it seems to ''kick in'' again, cooling normally, down to 38 - 40 degrees - - a refrigerator repairman came out once, defrosted ''ice blocked'' airway between freezer and fridge, and told me that somehow the refrigerator door had been left open too long - - he checked the seals and said they were all right - - but the problem has returned (two weeks later) HELP!!!

Frigidaire freezer, model: LFFH2067DW4. Runs constantly, 10 degrees inside, outside top and sides VERY hot to the touch, high temperature alarm will not turn off. What's the problem? Defrost timer?

I'm assuming Fahrenheit... (USA?)

If you can get down that cold... but not seize up completely in FROST your timer is MOST PROBABLY cycling correctly...

What can cause a refrigerator to work very hard... generate heat yet still fight to cool (Impressive when you think about it)...

I know this is going to sound crazy... but your INTERIOR LIGHT.

Never-mind trouble shooting... just take the light out to see if the WARM case situation improves immediately...

Else you need to give your coils a serious good cleaning

Why does my refrigerator keep acting up the freezer gets frosted up then the frig gets warm I have cleaned it underneath unplugged it for 24 hours then plugged it back in it works great for about a w

This problem can have many causes, but generally it is a defrost issue. If the freezer coils are frozen over, they block cold air flow to the refrigerator; and can be caused by different part failures. See the link below for a good explanation of possible failures and for parts. Also, if you turn the refrigerator temp to 0ff and unplug the refrigerator then plug it back in, it should go into defrost mode. Leave it that way for 15 or 20 minutes, then unplug and plug it back in. It may resolve the defrost mode problem. If not you'll need a part, or repair man. Freezer works but fresh food seems warm

If you have frost on the back wall of the freezer compartment you have a defrost problem. When the freezer coil does not defrost the refrigerator does not get air for cooling.

Cold freezer/warm refrigerator

Same problem with Frigidaire Gallery model#GLRT182SAW5 (dated 2002 on back of case)

Vents were blocked with ice. Vents (from top compartment to lower) located behind light. You can check by poking a chopstick up the (2) holes; be careful not to hit fan blades.

Solution:

- took freezer coil cover off in back; checked that defrost heater element was working (marked and rotated the timer in the hole next to light); checked that fan working. Found ice in the vents and defrost drip area. Got it out with hair dryer.

- cleaned compressor coils in back (check fan is rotating; also tweaked some of the compressor tubing bends to make them more smooth - read somewhere about a manufacturing defect ...); blew out drip tube from defroster while down there.

- Set the freezer control to WARM and the refrig control to COLD (THIS SHOULD IMPROVE AIR FLOW FROM TOP TO BOTTOM).

- Put thermometers in top and bottom. Checked that refrigerator cycles (not running continuously). Checked that cold air is coming down from (2) vents behind light.

OK: so far, so good. Lower compartment is 40 or under. Top is under 18.

CONCLUSION: Suspect marginal design. Had problems with another similar model where defroster ice doesn't drain correctly, pools and refreezes. Leading to blocked vents as well as blocked defroster drain and similar problem including dripping water from top to bottom and warm bottom.

MAYBE KEEPING THE FREEZER CONTROL AT WARM GETS AROUND THE PROBLEM?? ANYWAY, ITS WORKING FOR ME FOR NOW !!
