Whirlpool washer wtw5600sq0. I have a leak somewhere along the agitator spindle. I removed the inner drim and found a gold chain wrapped and wedged around where the outer plastic tub meets the agitator shaft. How do I get the tube like collar off that appears to be holding down the outer drum? I know there is a tub gasket under it all. The leak isn't happening until halfway full so I suspect one of the other o-rings on the shaft. HELP!!!!!!!!

SOURCE: Leaking around center spindle gasket of outer plastic basket

There was a hole in the plastic liner tub from the inner metal basket rubbing on it during the spin cycle. I got some plastic cement and put it in there and it willl hold for a little while while anyway. Not a very well designed washer when you look into the guts of the monster.

YOU SHOULD HAVE A SPANNER WRENCH TO REMOVE IT BUT IF YOU HAVE A SMALL MONKEY WRENCH AND ENOUGH MUSCLE YOU CAN REMOVE IT

SOURCE: Washer, front loader, Fridgidaire FWT449GFS1,

Hello, Welcome to FixYa. I suspect you are bang on and indeed it sounds like the rear bearing or spider gear is toast. It is a very involved repair either way but if you think you're up to it ( plus, is it worth it ? ) I can help in whatever manner possible with those frigidaire washers. I'll watch for your reply. Good luck. Regards, Macmarkus :)

Need to replace the agitator dogs and can't remove the mover from the bottom section

Direct drive Whirlpool washing machines use a two piece agitator. In-between the two pieces there are cogs, sometimes referred to as "dogs," which will wear out. When the dogs start to wear, you will notice a clicking sound and the top agitator will not move as it should. When you learn how to replace the agitator dogs on a Whirlpool washing machine, you can have your Whirlpool working correctly again. Agitator dogs are available at appliance repair facilities.

* 1

Disconnect the Whirlpool washer from the wall outlet. Open the washer lid to access the agitator.

* 2

Insert a flathead screwdriver in the notch in the agitator cap. Twist the screwdriver to pop the agitator cap off of the agitator. If your model has an inner cap, remove the inner cap by pulling up on the handle and removing it from the agitator.

* 3

Use a socket wrench to remove the bolt in the center of the agitator. Most Whirlpool washers use a 7/16-inch bolt to secure the agitator.

* 4

Grab the bottom of the agitator with both hands and pull it straight up out of the wash tub. Do not have your face directly over the agitator. If it is stuck or pops up too quickly you could injure yourself.

* 5

Set the agitator on the floor and carefully place your feet on each side of the agitator. Grasp the top of the agitator and pull the top half of the agitator off of the bottom half. Turn the top half over to access the dogs.

* 6

Use needle nose pliers to pull the dogs out of the agitator. Install the replacement dogs into the agitator according to the specifications given the manufacturer.

* 7

Set the top half of the agitator back on to the bottom half. Make sure to align the two tabs together between the halves so that they will friction fit. Grab the bottom of the agitator and apply a thin coat of dishwashing detergent on the rubber gasket on the bottom using your finger.

* 8

Set the agitator back into the wash tub and secure it using the retaining bolt. If your model had an inner cap, set the inner cap back into the agitator until it snaps into place.

* 9

Place the top of the agitator into place and press down until it locks into place.

Machine not spinning but, water is draining. What can be the problem?

I found a pillowcase wrapped around the shaft of a calypso washer. I had to remove the agitator to get it out. Pop the nutation tower off and remove the upper agitator. f8d7c59.jpgLook in the holes for clothing. Raise up the tub to release the article. Do not attempt to remove the inner agitator.9323d88.jpg I bet you have something similar an object between the tubs. I wrote a tip about it with pictures. The water will drain because the pump has its own motor.95e6002.jpgSERVICE MANUAL

Loose agitator on Whirlpool Ultima Care II washer

it could have stripped the spline on the plastic agitator. there is a bolt at the middle of the agitator and you can access that thru the top . remove the top cover and you can remove the bolt using a deep socket.

once you remove the agitator you can look at the dog agitator. these a 4 pcs plastics that works like a one way wrench.

be careful on the location, they are very hard to put back.

check also the spline on the inner part of the plastic assembly.

they do get stripped.

if they are, replace the whole agitator.

tnx 4 using fixya,

2 leaks

I had the same problem, found a gold jewelry chain gone through the machine and was wrapped around the central spindle on top and part way through the main spindle seal, you should remove the agitator first for a look, I carefully pulled mout the chain with no damage to the seal, you may also need to remove the drum. I looks a big job but is straight forward.
