If the machine will at least turn on though appears to have no further activity, then you most likely have a blown formatter board. This can be confirmed by locating the small push-switch on either the left or right-side cover. With the machine powered off, press and hold the small button with a paperclip or similar, then turn the machine on. If after turning the machine on and waiting about ten seconds with the button down, anything fails to print, you have a bad formatter board. This button runs an engine test and bypasses everything but the formatter board, so if it fails it means a bad board.
The problem is that that there a small piece of glass that the doc feeder use's to scan the orginal. You will have to clean the small glass it's about a half of a inch piece and is normally under the doc feeder unit. It will either be to the right side of the main copy board glass or it is under the doc feed unit where the paper goes down through the feeder. It is mostly some white out on the glass, just clean with a dam cloth with water or windex..... Good Luck
