The first and easiest thing to check first is the memory. I have seen alot of Dells that the memory burns out and will not let it come on. Try Pulling the memory and replace 1 chip at a time and try it. Good luck and have a great day.
Hi,
i have two c640s here with HAD the same problem..
turning off after a few seconds..
it;s a voltage ic-chip..the u45 chip..
type in at google:
c640 shuts down
the site with the solution is:
www.asklaptopfreak.com
i fixed my two c640's with replacing the u45 chip with a chip from
a dead c610 and a dead c600
the 2 c640s are happy and in the air for about two months now , so i am very happy with it!
good luck!

I got a new matter with my dell latitud 640 I changed its memory ram for a new one both it has the same problem,,,when I turn it on this can't do it...this turn on for 5 sec and after that it turn off...I'd like to know if this PC works correctly with a generic memory or I need to buy it a original one.....I tecnic told me that this one needs a original card because he guessed that the generic card is causing this problem...thing that I can't believe because when I put it the new car it worked correctly...I'm thinking that really matter is the motherboard buit I'm not sure about it could you please tell me if should I buy a new motherboad with a new memory ram ?.....the memory that I put it before wasn't new but it worked in a good way for this I'm not sure if I should buy a new memory ram....I really have one of 1GB other 512 and 256...I tasted them and my pc doesn't work yet...then I guess the matter is the motherboard....If I buy a new motherboard my PC will work just 3 years or more time???
