Question about Maytag Neptune MAH5500B Front Load Washer

Grinding noise My maytag neptune is approx. 6 yrs. old and just recently started making a grinding noise in the spin cycle. It sounds like a bad bearing of sorts. Is there a replaceable bearing available for the drum or drive mechanism that is causing this?

spin cycle is really loud on my maytag neptune mah 5500 any help?

After watching the Tonytool video I managed to replace both bearings and seal on my Maytag MAH4000 using a common triangular puller along with a variety of bushings and washers, some of which I adapted from old sockets ground down to size. However, the inner bearing (larger one) broke in pieces and had to be finally cut out with a high speed cutter. Took me the better part of a day but total cost was about $80 ( $45-sealkit from Maytag & $35 for both bearings bought locally). I just hope I can get another 7 years or more until the next ones wear out.

My Maytag washer also is about 6 years old and started making a grinding noise during the spin cycle. Please let me know if this is an easy fix. I am mechanically inclined and do have allot of tools at my dispossal. Can you buy these bearing seperately and is there a step by step repair manual that I can use....Please advise

    Thanks

The Neptune bearings are an interesting breed... Maytag wants you to replace the whole outer tub which includes the bearings installed for $180 or so. You can replace the bearings yourself. See www.tonytool.com to see how it is done. The tool costs $379 or so... but it is designed for the service tech. not the d.i.y.er. But watching the video can give you an idea of how to do it yourself. The bearings were available on www.neptunewaxmotor.com for about $35.00. You will also need the Maytag seal kit 12002022 to complete the job whether you decide to replace bearings or the outer tub.

I found it was better to buy a new washer because this bearing is a baaaad design. i tore it all apart only to find the bearing shot and grease all over. the bearing was so curroded in the drum it woould not come out no matter what. forget it . if you have this problem buy a new one or deal with the noise. it would have worked fine for a few more years it just sounded like a airplane was taking off in the basement.

I just took my Neptune MAH5500BWW apart and found that the bearings are shot. My local Maytag service provider quoted me $425.00 for the whole outer tub! I would have bene happy with $180.

Loud noises during spin cycles

Hello, If the noise is a squealing or grinding sound, you are likely looking at a bad seal and bearing.
If the noise is a knocking sound, it's more likely a suspension or out of balance condition.
Thanks

There is 2 possible problems. 1. Pump will make noise as soon as the drain and spin starts. 2. Rear bearing this noise usually starts later in cycle as the drum gets up to final speed. The rear bearing of coarse is the most expensive of the two as it is part of the outer tub.

Making loud noise in the spin cycle and now does not spin at all

Sounds like the tub bearing is gone. Get it checked out though. It could be the pump bearing, a cheaper fix. Or as bad as the tub bearing, a motor bearing.

Maytag Neptune front load washer model MAH3000AW, load during spin cycle

YOU MEAN LOUD DURING SPIN CYCLE? IF THAT SO, WHAT KIND OF NOISE? BANGING NOISE MEANS YOU HAVE UNBALANCED LOAD OR ONE OF THE SUSPENSION IS BAD OR FELL OFF. GRINDING NOISE MEANS YOU HAVE A BAD TUB BEARING, TO REPLACE THAT, YOU HAVE TO REPLACE THE WHOLE REAR TUB ASSEMBLY, VERY COSTLY. MEANS YOU PROBABLY BE BUYING A NEW WASHER.

Loud noise during spin cycle and agitator won't rotate

the machine is nknown to have bad main seals, in turn leading to the corrosion of the spin bearing, in which case makes it sound as if a helicopter is landing in your laundry room

No, I'll tell you before forking out $ $ for some bad news. The noise is your bearing. You have to replace the outer tub .Its not going to be repaired any other way.The idiots who designed this washer made this a non servicable bearing. The labor is high not to mention the outer tub is also.REPLACE THE OUTER TUB.
