Hitachi 50UX11K wavy pic

I have a Hitachi model 50UX11K which has a very wavy picture, although excellent color and contrast. The problem is worst when the set is cold. It had been clearing up upon warming but no longer does. I read some symptoms that sounded like it could be a bad comb filter,
and now I see that the comb filter for this set has been discontinued.
The picture also tends to roll at times, even after adjusting the vertical hold.

If the problem is indeed the comb filter, this would be perfectly acceptable, since I seem to S-video jacks on both my Cable box and DVD.
I'm curious. Did my description of the problem sound like a comb filter problem (possibly,) or are you suggesting the cable merely as a way of eliminating the comb filter as the cause of the problem?

Thanks for your astute reccommendation of using an S-Video cable to bypass what you felt
certain was a comb filter problem, but I purchased a cable and my TV exhibits the same symptoms as it did before.

    Any ides?

Since the comb filter is discontinued is will be best to bypass it by using the S-video input especially if you are on satellite receiver or use a composite to S-video adapter if you don't have dish. You might get the adapter at Radio Shack or shop online at Circuit City or Best Buy

Yes it is a comb filter problem and the cost of fixing it is not costwise compared to bypassing with S-video cable. No one can get the comb filter anymore and there is little chance to fix your existing comb filter. bypassing does not change the picture quality that you can tell.

Hitachi 50UX11K wavy pic rolls

Sounds like the vertical controll circuit, it could just be a capicator that is on that circuit. as per the comb filter its very difficult to repair as the capacitors are micro and difficult to solder unless your soldering skills is very good. The is a place that repairs these comb filters i am not sure at what cost though. At any case you can bypass the comb filter by
1.) getting an s-video adapter for your vcr
2.) connect the vcr to the tv using the s-video adapter
3.) change the channels using your vcr.

I'd rcommend you get a professional to have a look at it and repair it as it is much to difficult to repair your self even if you have the service manual

Screen is distorted on rear projection hitachi

Projection TV sets need to have all three colors - RED - BLUE - GREEN - lined up correctly on the screen in order for the video to look normal. When its out of alignment the video will look 3D, wavy, distorted, etc. Most of the time you just need to adjust your convergence in the TV menu. If you cannot adjust it in the menu - then your convergence is broken and needs to be repaired.

Convergence problems are very common on all Projection TV sets including Sony, Samsung, JVC, Philip Magnavox, Panasonic, Akai, Pioneer, Hitachi, Zenith, and others. You can get a convergenece repair kit from the link below.

Common Symptoms include....
  • Screen looks 3D
  • Colors don't line up
  • One or more colors can't be adjusted when using the convergence menu.
  • Screen is bowed or warped.
  • TV shuts off after powering on - TV may also make a chirping noise.
Here are some photos of convergence problems.

Here is a quick test....

Using your original remote go-to the settings menu then goto the convergence section.

Try to adjust the red and then the blue convergence.

You should be able to move RED and BLUE in all directions - up, down, left, and right.

If you can't move them in all directions or cant move them far enough your convergence chips are bad and should be replaced. This is a common problem.

Note: If you TV has as flash focus or magic focus button only try pressing the button. If it fails to fix the convergence your need to fix it. See below for a solution

You will need to replace the convergence chips and possibly some convergence resistors and pico fuses.
This is a a fairly easy DIY job if you know what you are doing. If you have never done this before we would advise calling a shop or if you want to do it yourself get a complete kit with instructions and support from

Casio exilim digi cam repair

I think we have the same problem with the Exlim s600 model, if the camera take picture outdoor, the picture is almost white, with horizontal line. I have taken it to the repair center at Compex, Quezon Ave., They say the problem is in the camera CCD lense. which cost P7,500 to fix. A new one Casio 8.1 meg pixel, cost just about P8 to 9T. I bought mine March 2006, Use it for only about 35 times. got a feeling these camera were made to be broken just about after the warranty expire.

To fix or not?? 1990 Hitachi big screen

Sorry the answer is no. If the rolling pic was the only problem you had then yes throw a new signal board in and move on. In this case your picture not being as sharp as it used to be will also be tubes going bad..18 years not a bad run on three tubes that run extremely warm. Have fun on your upgrade to lcd or dlp proojection this will cost less than the fix of your tv.

Hitachi Ultravision50vf820

use the advanced options page and reset the factor blue and red convergence defaults then do re apply the auto color defaults color at first it seemed very red (which is good because red was the missing factor in the green picture) but after reseting all the color and tints to the normal ranges I then reset the color auto correct again and all seems fine.
