Question about Philips SA4010 MP3 Player

SAMSUNG YH920GS- Error Message- device cannot initialize hdd

When turned on the player simply displays this error message- device cannot initialize hdd I think my MP3 player might be a little different, but it is Philips and it only has 1 GB. The product number is SA40xx, but it wasn't coming up, so I'm hoping that SA4010 is the right model number. Anyway -- A few months ago, I went to turn on my MP3 player and it wouldn't turn on. So I changed the battery and still nothing. Then when it would turn on, it would just freeze on the opening "PHILIPS" message. So I plug it in, the computer doesn't recognize the device. I reinstall everything and, finally, the Philips Device Manager comes up. It tells me that it needs to wipe the whole thing clean to repair it because there's something wrong with it! So I hit "repair" and as it starts to repair itself, it says 'There Was An Unknown Error'. ]: I don't know what to do now. I tried doing this on a different computer and I'm getting the same thing. Please help!! -August

Re: SAMSUNG YH920GS- Error Message- device cannot...

You are missing a critical update from Microsoft that will allow the computer to recognize this as an MTP device rather than an MSD device - this is a new problem that did not exist before.

Try a firmware upgrade, but it may not be successful since the repair was unsuccesssful.

Otherwise, get all the most recent Windows Updates from

If none of the above work, write me back.

YP-U2JXB & YP-U2JZW Won't sync...Help!

Error C00D1236 virtually always indicates one of two things:

1) The device is trying to sync hidden files--are there any?
2) There is licensed media that is being synced, and the license is either corrupt or has expired. If you have any licensed media, then try going back to where you purchased it (in an iTunes-like music management program? In WMP?) and refresh/renew the license.

The bad news is that until C00D1236 is resolved, you can't sync your device. frown.gif

You can bypass syncing, and directly transfer files, In my computer, the mp3 plaer will be shown as a drive.

Now if one of the two solutions above is not feasible for u, try this:

In case you have a problem to connect your Samsung YP-U2J Mp3 player, you should update Firmware to get it working. The new Firmware may be downloaded from

CLICK Here to Download : Firmware Update

This error is common with Windows Media Player

Here is the instruction:
  1. Download the YP-U2J Updater
  2. Remove Mp3 player if you already connected to the USB port
  3. Run the program (You should see something like: Please connect the device)
  4. Hold down the Play button and connect the Mp3 Player to USB port (Hold down the play button while you connect the device, you should see a message (normally after 8 seconds) like: Initializing on YP-U2J Updater program screen)
  5. After you hear the Windows chime "new device found" or the message "Initializing" on YP-U2J Updater, you can now remove your hand from play button.
  6. Check the Format Data Area checkbox (By clicking the yes button, you will lose all of your data in your Mp3 player)
  7. Click the "yes" button
  8. Finally, click on the Start button (takes less than a minute). DO NOT REMOVE YOUR DEVICE
  9. IMPORTANT: After updating the firmware, you MUST disconnect the Mp3 player and turn it on. You will see a 20% message for about 50 seconds and it will be restarted automatically.
Update: Please keep in mind that if you sync your Mp3 player with a computer that has a Windows Media Player 9 or 10, you should do these steps again

I know your problem. Your HDD is not clipped in. Press that little square circut thing in untill you hear a click.

Initial fail error

The HDD is disconnected from the player. When you open up the player just carefully push the circut board thing on the gold foil behind the hdd in untill it clicks.

Samsung yh-820

I had the same error message and was told by Samsung that I needed to send my MP-3 player to their service center. It would seem that the Hard Drive crashed. I had to get a "Transaction Number" from the Service Rep at Samsung before I could even send the MP-3 back. Mine was out of warranty so it was going to cost me $125.00 for parts and labor to have it fixed.

Error message

Did you try pushing the reset button and/or reinstalling the software? sometimes that helps. Also, I have a question for you: I am thinking of replacing the battery on my yh-j70, as it is getting weak, was it easy for you to open the player and can you then simply pull out the battery or do you have to solder? Would you happen to know where batteries can be bought for this unit? Thank you

SAMSUNG YH920GS- Error Message- device cannot initialize hdd

Try reformatting the hard drive and/or updating the firmware. If that doesn't work, then the hard drive is bad, and by extension, the whole unit is worthless. Sorry.
