Hi.
If the unit is working, then the problem depends on software installation on computer, or on USB cable.
If you have a spare USB cable, test it. Even without software the device must be detected as USB generic device when connected. If the computer does not detect the unit is being connected and disconnected, then cable may be bad.
Regarding the software, if the player had been connected to the computer before installing the software, then Windows had installed the default drivers that will cause the software not to recognize the unit.
To fix this do the following:
Unplug USB data cable.
Uninstall LG software.
Do a system restore to a recent date before the LG was connected for the first time.
Install again LG software, keep usb cable not connected.
When prompted by software setup wizard connect the software.
Restart the computer and use LG software to manage the player.
Regards.

Thanks.Oct 26, 2009
- There is no software download. by the way, the LG is supposed to work on windows.
Try the following.
If possible test the LG on a different computer.
If the LG does not work, then it is faulty. In that case you can take it to a computer repair shop to attempt recovering data.
If the problem is the computer, disconnect computer power cord, and if it is a laptop also remove battery. Draining power can fix charge related problems that often affect USB.
