Please advise how to fix my microwave oven.

  • JamesV Jan 01, 2008

I unplugged the microwave, unscrewed the back and took off the cover. I don't know what a voltage transformer looks like, so i played with all the connections to make sure they were all securely connected and plugged in. I then plugged in the microwave and turned it on. It started working and after 2 seconds made a loud popping noise and there was a flash of light beside where the lightbulb is. But it continued to work and this pop and flash did not reoccur. I tried it again and it worked and inner turn table was turning. I secured the cover back on and tightened the screws. But again, it did not work. Now, as before, the light comes on and the timer works, but the turn table does not turn and it does not microwave.

I opened it up again and this time played with the door switch. I took the door switch out of where it was locked into place, made sure the little button on it was working well and then snapped it back into place. i put the metal cover back on and plugged it in. I pushed the door open button to open the door and then closed the door again. The microwave turned on and worked. But subsequent times it did not, but only works if I push the door open button in by a hair and hold it in that position until cooking is done.

I found the bottom door interlock switch pin, when it is flush with its housing the switch disconnects. Replace the switch and it should work fine.

When I opened up the microwave cover, noticed that the door latch mechanism was worn and not holding up the interlock switch. A thick piece of tape on the worn piece of plastic and microwave was back to working (I had symptom of the timer counting down without the microwave turning on)

You need to trace the power feeding the high voltage transfomer. Because the table doesn't turn, it implies that a door switch or safety interlock is the problem.

The flashing in where the light is, sounds like the Magnatron is
failing and its high-voltage is shorting causing the sparks.

You are looking at replacing the magnatron. Its affordable if you
do it yourself - you can buy the part on EBAY - lookup "universal
    magnatron"

How do I turn off defrost on a sensor microwave oven?

  1. Press the "Cancel" or "Stop" button on the microwave oven to stop the current defrost cycle.
  2. Look for a "Defrost" button on the control panel of the microwave oven.
  3. Press the "Defrost" button again to turn it off.
  4. If your microwave oven has a "Sensor" button, press it and select another cooking function like "Popcorn," "Reheat," or "Beverage."
  5. If the above steps don't work, consult the user manual of your microwave oven or contact the manufacturer's customer service for assistance.
Note: Turning off defrost on a sensor microwave oven may vary depending on the model and brand of the appliance.

How do you stop, reset or change the remaining time on the Timer on the GE JES1142 microwave? Pressing Clear/Off does nothing. Do you just have to wait for the timer to run out? Manuel is wrong even on how...

The first thing I would suggest is a hard reset. Unplug the unit for a minute or so. Then plug it back in, set the clock and try again.

If that doesn't work, leave it unplugged for about 5 minutes.
