Scanner making grinding noise

My scanner stopped mid-scan one day, so i restarted my computer to get it to reset itself. when it got to the home position, it started making a grinding noise and i had to unplug it.

now, whenever i plug it back in, the grinding noise starts up again, like the scanner doesn't know it's already where it's supposed to be. help would be awesome.

Alignment page prints every time printer is turned on. HP1315 on Windows Vista Home Premium.

Take the test page ( also called : alighnment page ) that always prints when you switch on the printer and place it face down in the scanner.

Then press the scan button on the printer itself.
(this is the button at the bottom of all the buttons on the printer/scanner.)

Make sure that the printer scans the test page.
( sometimes you press the butoon and it doesn't scan )
( it makes a scanning noise when scanning succesfully )

Then it will stop printing the test page ( alignment page ) ever again.

Scanner not working.

I had a simular problem with my HpScanner. What I found myself, was the computer stopped recongnizing the program after a few uses. Check your computer programs and see if it's still in. Then if its not, reload it, or simply restart/reboot your computer and see if it recongnizes it then. I believe its a glitch in the programing from the scanner itself. Also just always check if your connections are easily tugged on, may have come loose. They may look connected, but the littelest separation would cause it not to function either. Let me know what happens.

Grinding noise

The most common problem is that the pulley breaks, you might be able to see it through the glass. looks where the belt goes, and see if the pulley is broken.

also, some people forget to unlock the locking mechanism when the unit gets moved, the locking switch is on the side.

No Show!

Two things you can easily check:

Ensure the issue is not caused by Electro Magnetic Interference (EMI) EMI can cause similar image quality issues. Verify that the scanner is not in the direct vicinity of the computer monitor and/or speakers. If so, relocate the scanner at least three feet away from the monitor and/or speakers and retry the scan.

Also, try this as well:
Re-home the scanning carriage The scanning carriage in the scanner may have lost the home position and needs to be reset.
  1. Shut the computer system off and then disconnect the scanner from the power source. Leave the scanner disconnected from the power source for at least one full minute.
  2. Reconnect the power and then restart the computer system.
  3. When the computer system has fully restarted, try scanning again.
Oh.. and you ARE using the power supply that came w/ the scanner aren't you?? If not, you NEED to.

"scanner is busy" message

Turn the scanner off, disconect from computer, turn on again while its disconnected, let it do its startup routine for a few minutes. When it stops making noises, turn off again. Turn off computer and restart. Connect scanner again to computer and turn it on. Start the software. I'd appreciate if you'd let me know if it helped. Otherwise you might need to open it or send it for repair to Sony. Service contact is here: http://ca.konicaminolta.com/support/contact/sonylist/index.html
