#1-07 Fail I cannot get past the Windows splash screen. I run the HD self test and get #1-07 FAIL. Is this a bad HD or a MOBO issue?

Received the same #1 - 07 Fail when I ran the self test on Compaq Presario V5000. Repartitioned the hard drive and I tried to install XP. I reach the screen that says "To Setup Windows now, press enter." After pressing enter I get a screen that says "Setup did not find any hard drives installed on your computer. Setup cannot continue. To quit Setup, press F3." Installed Windows 98SE without any problem and it woked fine. I tried different versions of XP with the same result.

Looks like hard drive problems or missing operative sistem so you can run a test boot up your computer in save mode when the computer try to restart press the key F8 and click on save mode if you can acces into it means you have problem with your software if not you have bad hard drive

you can prevent that if you don't install programs or software remove it every time you install someting it will share files and data from other programs so when you remove any program it will take some files or data from your other ones and from your operative system so you can create a restore point so if someting goes wrong you can restore the computer

Quickest way to check if motherboard has problems

If it makes it to the POST (Power-ON Self Test; before the windows/mac boot logo) screen, you're pretty close to golden. You could run a memory diagnostic (such as memtest86+) and/or prime95 in stress testing mode to see if the system is stable.

If the MOBO is bad, the computer, at the most, will sit at a blank screen (never getting to POST). 98% of the time it won't even turn on. Some have diagnostic beeps when booting to POST. If the computer originally had 1 short beep when turned on (when it was working), it may produce multiple short or long beeps. If it never beeped to begin with just disregard this.

The other alternative is manufacturer utilities. The computer or motherboard maker usually has a set of utilities to test the hardware. You'd be able to find it at their website in the support section.

There's a link at the bottom for more information about the POST operation.

Once I turn on the laptop it stays stuck on the LG Splash screen, I press F2 to enter bios setup but it just stays on the splash screen, and nothing progresses, I can't do anything,

I've seen issues like this with a bad hard drive. When entering the bios it queries the hard drive first and it's got issues it can hang it up like this. If you have a spare try that. You can try to boot it without a hard drive to see if it gets past this. Some computers won't boot without a hd though. If you've got another computer you can look around online to make a flash drive bootable and use that instead of your hard drive. Lastly, get a new hd.

Error code 0142 message error code 2000-0142

My computer did boot up to the desktop, but was completely unresponsive from there when trying to open anything. I ran a system diagnostics and got this error with the status byte of 70. I rebooted into Safe Mode and was then able to open files. I backed up my stuff to a flash drive and then ran Error-Checking in the HD Properties which runs the CHKDSK function the next time the computer is rebooted. That found 2 bad file clusters and repaired them. One was a file called Windows.edb, which does the hard drive search indexing for Windows and was most likely my problem with the lockups. The other was a Napinsp.dll file. After these were fixed and the computer was rebooted, everything worked normally.
This HD is only 9 months old, but if this happens again, I'll replace it again.

Back up the content of hard drive and run HDD self test inF10 setup

Use an external HD to Back Up. Software is included with HD or use MS version. The Hard Drive Manufacture does also make software to test for issues. I reccomend also Copy / Pasting your data as well... especially the critical data. If you change HD... you will have to re-install anyway and i would take advantage of the new system install.

Have lexmark 5070 printer getting error msg saying ccomputer not communicating with printer tried unplugging everything usb, printer

It seems there is a possibility of a problem with the printer itself, or perhaps the cartridges. You should first self-test the printer. Since we are unsure where the problem exists, we must do eliminative troubleshooting to rule out parts of the printing system. The self-test allows us to rule out software and the cable by testing the hardware by itself. Please note that this is not a "fix," but rather a diagnostic test to determine if your hardware is at fault.

Please disconnect and then reconnect the power supply on the printer and make sure it makes a setup noise when the cable is reattached. Will the printer perform a form feed with paper loaded when the purple/silver button is pressed?

Next, I'd like you to attempt this printer self-test by following the steps given below:

1. Press the "Settings" button on the printer.
2. Press the checkmark button when you see "Maintenance" on the display. 3. Press the right or left arrow key until you see "Print Test Page," then press the checkmark button.

The self-test should at least print out a set of either black or color bars, if not both (if you have a printer with both color and black installed simultaneously). Should this test fail, try it again without cartridges installed. If the self-test still fails to take paper in and make sounds like the carrier is moving across the paper, this is a hardware issue, and the printer will require service. If the self-test completes without any cartridges installed, run the self-test again with only the color cartridge installed. (If you have both black and color cartridges, after this test, run the test again with just the black cartridge installed.) If you find that either cartridge causes the self-test to fail, please let us know.

If the self-test prints, but has lines or smudges or other print quality issues, let us know. This includes any print quality issues, we need to know if the problems you have with your black or color are based in the printer, or communications with your computer, or the computer's software.

If the self-test prints your test bar(s) clearly, the printer hardware is not at fault. The issue may be a communication problem, or perhaps a software conflict.

However, please let us know the windows operating system installed on the computer.(Windows XP / 2K / NT, Windows Vista, Mac)

Please let us know the name and version of the operating system (Windows XP / 2K / NT, Windows Vista, Mac) that you are using on your computer. This information is important for us to troubleshoot the issue further.

ASUS Splash Screen Stays on at Post....

AFAIK splash screens are generally controlled in your CMOS settings, you'll need to hit DEL on POST (Power On Self Test) alternatively called a 'boot up' to access your CMOS panel.
