Card Error with SanDisk 2 GB card

I own a Panasonic SV-AS10 digital camera. I got a SanDisk 2GB card for Christmas and when I insert it, get CARD ERROR on the screen. Please advise if there are incompatibility issues with this SanDisk card and my camera. If not what do you suggest I do to get it functioning correctly.

I have the same problem just with a Kingston 2g card. It shows card error. Is it too much memory?
