Oxygen 3 will not turn on

I was vacuuming and my electrolux oxygen 3 just shut off. I cleaned out hoses and replaced bag. I waited 30 minutes, but nothing happens when I plug it in. No lights come on or anything.

Suspect overheat function of cleaner faulty. Cleaner shut down after 10 mins of use (overheat light) cannot be reset three days later.................

Similar problem here...vacuum will not stay on. Turns on for a second, then turn off. Try again same thing. Replace bag / filter / check hose, same thing. Thing is a p.o.s. DO NOT BUY ONE! This is my second. The first had many issues surrounding cheap manufactuing. Telescoping wand breaks easy, and is currently duct taped together. I am preparing to try dragging it behind my car down the highway...maybe that will fix it. Can't hurt, it doesn't work now. Not to mention, the buttons get harder to actuate with thumbs are killing me from trying to tourn this damn thing on.

Sure enough, same thing happening to mine.... have only had it for two weeks. Love it's suctioning power, but while happily vacuuming yesterday and it turned off... won't come back on, no lights, nothing..... tried turning it off and on, disconnected all hoses, replaced bag. No luck.

Welp, it appears my problem is not so uncommon... I was happily vacuuming my carpet with our two week old Oxygen 3 and it just stopped working. I turned it off, unplugged, changed the bag (although it had a fresh bag already), waited an hour and tried again... no luck. I read that there is a reset button, but can't find it, I'll have to dig out my manual. Any other suggestions anyone? Aside from it not working, I've really enjoyed it so far!

  • Dust Mite Apr 14, 2008

Okay, so the manual says to hit the reset button, but I don't see a reset button anywhere.

This is interesting, as I have the same problem. Oxy 3 Electrolux worked fine one day, and won't turn on the next. The lights come on, but nothing else. Is this likely to be a circuit board failure as well?

  • pcmeiners Jul 25, 2008

    Same problem....

Only used it 12 times, filter is absolutely clean, new bag for testing

First, the hepa fillter does not have enough surface area, the entire filter should have been much bigger. As a result, there is considerable back pressure...just try to remove the filter if the vacum is on.. this adds to the load on the motor, no wonder the overload circuit kicks in. Overall I will never buy a "Electrolux" (rebranded) again. Poor engineering...100% the company was aware of the shutdown issue before it was released. What a scam.

It just stopped. We checked out the SUMO board and, sure enough, the fuse had blown. Certainly not a quality vacuum.

For those who have this problem and are in a bind. I do not recommend this, but for those practiced in the fine and noble are of jury rigging, you can, for a quick fix:

Use the above directions, and if your stupidly soldered fuse is the culprit and you have just put down carpet fresh all over your whole house (such was my case) you can take a small piece of aluminum foil and carefully wrap the fuse with it. Take a small piece of electrical tape to secure it. This will work for a quick fix to get the carpet fresh up.

I immediately took it back apart and removed my jury rigging and will await my replacement circuit board so that I can sell this POS ASAP.

I have owned the Electrolux Oxygen3 for about 2 years.  It has now stopped working as described above. Of course I'd like to get rid of the "orange thing" and buy the Aerus Electrolux if it is actually a good machine.   That's a great solution if one can afford it.  However, I just had to replace a 2 year old Whirlpool Duet clothes dryer that is also a POS, and I have a year old Whirlpool gas range that has a faulty oven  thermostat.  How many appliances will I have to buy to finally find one or more that actually work for a reasonable length of time?

This is often caused by a failure of a fuse on the Sumo board, or occasionally by a failure of the cord reel. I just posted a rather extensive set of instructions on how to check these things as a response to a different thread, but I will repost them here:

There is a board in the back (called the "SUMO board") which has a fuse hardwired to it. Most of the "no go" problems with this machine are related to this.

In order to check it, you'll want to take a thin flat-head screwdriver, and gently pry up the silver panel on the top of the machine. The easiest place to do this is on the side of the panel, as far toward the rear of the machine as possible.

You will then need to remove the 2 Torx screws on the rear panel, and the top body of the machine should then be able to be removed. There are two clips in the bag chamber, directly under the back portion of the bag compartment lid, which can be pressed in to facilitate removal of the back cover.

The sumo board will be sitting directly on the top of the machine, and the fuse in question will be on the right if you are looking at it from the rear of the machine. Unfortunately, if the fuse is blown, you will have to replace the entire circuit board. (Unless you feel very comfortable with soldering a new fuse onto it, which I do not recommend for safety reasons.)

You can also check continuity of the cord reel from here. On the right hand side of the board are two spade terminals leading to wires running down into the cord reel assembly. One black, one white. Checking the continuity between these terminals and the ends of the power supply cord will allow you to determine if the cord reel is providing power to the machine.

Accessing the cord reel will require you to remove the six Torx screws holding the main body to the base. Two of these are on the rear of the machine, and are very deep inside; so you will require a very long-shanked Torx driver to get at these. Two more are inside the bag chamber at the rear, and the other two are on the front handle assembly. This will allow you to lift the main body away from the base, and if you are replacing the cord reel you can pull the wires from the spade terminals and the socket on the sumo board, and feed them back down into the cord reel chamber to remove the old cord reel.

Reassembly is simply a reverse of the previous. Beware, however: getting the cord reel to align is something of a chore, so make sure that you have the retraction system functioning before you put the whole thing back together, or you'll be bummed when you finish reassembly and the cord won't retract.
(I've definitely never done that. Nope. Never.)

Hope that helps, good luck.

Just had the same thing happen after using the new vacuum for 8 months. Saw this post and that there was no solution so I called the local serviceman. Turns out that this vacuum that we paid almost $600 for because it was an Electrolux is actually made by Eureka. They bought Electrolux and are slapping the name on their product. The gentlemen told me that electronic circuit boards are failing on a regular basis on these machines. We'll have to take it in and will have to wait 2.5 weeks for the part to come in and the repair to be done.

Like everything else these days, "this is not your mother's Electrolux". Our last one lasted 25 years!

The vacuum stopped working while i was using it...did all the troubleshooting tips.. still not working.

Sometimes the vacuum will overheat, if this happens the vacuum will shut down to protect it from damage.

Unplug the vacuum, and let it sit unused 30 minutes.

Please let me know if this has solved your problem.

My vacuum turns on for a second and shuts off. I have replaced the bag and filter, and it still happens. The replace bag light turns on after I do this.

1. Detach the hose and turn on. If it runs, place hand over opening. If it shuts off, the control valve assembly is dirty or worn out and needs cleaned/replaced. This is a job that should be done by an authorized Aerus Electrolux service tech. It's most commonly caused by use of "made-to-fit Electrolux" bags, rather than the genuine bags made by Home Solutions.

2. If the vacuum keeps running after detaching hose and placing hand over in port, then check the hose. Drop a coin or similar small item through the hose. If it doesn't go through, there's a clog. It will probably be at the bend of the handle. Plug hose into exhaust port and turn vacuum on. Make sure the other end of the hose is in a bag to catch the dirt and stuff coming out. If you have problems, it's easily removed by a service tech.
