Dropped Sony Cyber-Shot DSC-W55

I dropped my camera and it was about 1 ft in the air and landed on its back on my laptop keyboard it didn't scratch or anything but the lens got stuck, a lot of these people had similar problems but I'm still not sure how to fix it. I know theres a solution so can you please help me? When I turn it on a black screen comes up saying "Access" and then "Turn the Camera on & Off" I did this and It still is like that. Also the battery is more than half charged if that helps? Please help thanks!

i was taking a video of something in a gymnasium and someone threw a ball at me and it hit my camera. I turned it off and when i went to turn it on it said "Access" and then "turn on and off again" nothing helped. The whole lens unit (from base of lens to tip) was bent up and i cant seem to push it back down. anyhelp???!!

When I try to power up, it will not go into camera mode. Lens extends in and out several times (while "Access" is displayed on screen) before giving a message to turn power off and back on. When powered down and back up the sequence just repeats. Battery is fully charged, battery was removed and reinstalled, memory stick was removed and reinstalled. LCD works in "review" mode. Menu works. Will not go into camera mode.

I have  the same exact problem except that this happened out of nowhere...I didn't even drop my camera!  One moment it was working, and the next I got the black screen that says "access, turn camera off and on again".  I've done that many times and nothing. Everything works, but my lens won't come out, and therefore I can't take any new pictures.  Please help!

You have to shake your camera. i have a dsc w 55 and dropped my camera right on the lens forcing it to get stuck in an upward position. i was able to push it back down to the center but then it was showing the same screen you guys r getting now. howver i powered it back on and when the lens came out i just shook my camera back and forth and believe it or not it started working again. may take a few tried but it does work

It did work with my camera!! DSC-W55. However, before applying any pressure to the lenses, considering the following:
1. Find out the direction of rotation of the lenses (usually there are two, the larger and the smaller a the end of the assembly)
2. Only apply rotational force to the larger lens. And apply LIGHT pressure (push) to the smaller lens. After the 5th attempt it finally retracted.

As you turn on your camera the lenses have a sequence of movement:
After the on/off is pressed, the lens rotate one direction. About two seconds later, the lens rotate the oposite direction. Good Luck!

Hi, I have the same problem. I dropped my camera and now the lens is stuck and I get the message "please turn off & on camera". I have tried that 50 times but it doesn't work. Has anybody figured out a solution to this?

Lens will not retract completly on sony cyber shot DSC-W55 after being dropped while lens extended

Only try this if your camera is out of warranty. Turn camera on, and extend lens fully, now grab outer most element and pull out. Sometimes you can reseat the lens in the track at the correct point. I used to do this all the time to my older digital cameras.

remove the battery for 15 min and see it that does it if not you might have jared a board loose. or broke loose a solder joint. It can be fixed but with out proper diagnosis I can not be positive of what is broke.

I dropped my DSC-W55 camera and it the lens won't go back inside

It sounds like maybe your lens is jammed. You may want to try and fix it yourself. If you want to repair it yourself there is a guy in South Carolina who has lots of parts for all the Sony Cameras. I bought my LCD from him for $39.00 plus shipping and it works perfect. I put it in myself and saved a ton. If you buy the part from him he sends you pictures of him taking the camera apart so that you can repeat the process when you install it. I think his email is gerald.ray@aa-ark.com
