The model you have selected should have a self check feature: when turns off and the
green
power light goes off:
ON THE FRONT OF THE SET PRESS AND HOLD BOTH MENU
AND INPUT together for at least 5 seconds and then release both buttons.
The
power light should blink a two digit error code: for example: 2 blinks,
a pause and 2 blinks--it will repeat the code about 10 times.
error codes for this set:
1, then 2 no error detected
2, then 1 X-ray protection
2, then 2 short protection
2, then 3 deflection circuit problem
2, then 4 vertical deflection problem
2, then 2 is the most common and easiest to fix.
Let me know what you find and if 2,2 I have detailed instructions for repairing that kind of trouble.
I am here to help people.

- IF 1, then 2 blinks it means whatever is wrong it is not triggering an error code.
I gather the amount of time it will play has been getting shorter and shorter?
Do you know what Glycol is?

- Ok---some history about Mitsubishi:
Some of their sets had problems related to Glycol. Each of the 3 picture tubes this set uses has a sealed area right on the face of each tube with Glycol to keep the face of the tube cool. Some of their sets had problems with the seals leaking Glycol out and dripping down onto one or more of the circuit boards----this stuff is like antifreeze, only much more concentrated and toxic.
There is a easy way to look for this: Remove the front speaker grill (it pulls out) and remove the inspection plate behind it-----inside the set from left to right you will see 3 large circuit boards--if there are any leaks damage should be seen in the first 3 inches or so from the front of either the middle board which is tan in color----or the right board which is dark green in color.
What you are looking for is either any sign of liquid (there only needs to be a small amount) or on the green board some kind of white residue or discoloration on soldered parts-----looks like white powder when it dries
IF YOU SEE ANY ACTUAL LIQUID, DO NOT TOUCH IT WITH YOUR HAND! YOU WILL ABSORB IT INTO YOU BODY AND THIS STUFF IS VERY TOXIC----this is the reason they do not allow these types of sets to be put in the landfill anymore.
You have to look very carefully for anything that is even slightly discolored---this stuff is also conductive---means if it gets across parts or leads for parts it creates a short.
Let me know what you find----if Glycol damage I would not suggest attempting to repair it--the real problem there is someone also has (if they can repair the damage it has done) to locate which tube or tubes is leaking and remove, drain, reseal and reinstall them back in the set------MAJOR LABOR.
IF YOU NEED ANY ADVICE OR HAVE QUESTIONS LET ME KNOW.

- ok, I usually do not make a suggestion like this but I think you at this point in time only have two real choices----
Either have a shop pick it up and see if they can find the trouble--I doubt it will be fixed in your home because any good tech will look to see if it has a error code----Considering costs just to have it sent into a shop it may or may not be worth fixing. Keep in mind, if the convergence circuit has never been repaired you could get your current problem fixed and then at any moment it could need the convergence circuit repaired---double trouble.
The only other option is to replace it. If you buy a Plasma or LCD set make sure you get at least a 3 year extended warranty and 5 years if you can--those sets have a lot more problems; I have seen people who paid 1500 for a plasma and did not buy a warranty beyond the 1 year---anything goes wrong on one of those boards and labor can easily be 50-70% of what the set cost.
