Question about Creative Labs Zen V MP3 Player

Creative Zen V Won't Charge, Won't be Recognized, Etc.

I took the Zen with me on a trip to Lake Tahoe and San Francisco and on the drive there it died. I forgot to bring the USB cable with me on the trip so I wasn't able to charge it until a week later (today when I got back home). I've connected it to the computer and nothing happened.
At random times it'll turn on but it'll shut back down immediately. Other times it'll flash but the computer says that the device is not recognized. I've tried reinstalling the program, pressing the reset button, connecting it to diffeerent USB ports. Nothing works.

My Zen V isn't recognized as connected by the Sync Manager. I had to reset it (using the needle), then powered it back up. Re-building Library displays, but then when I try to play any music, it freezes up again. When I attach it to my laptop, the laptop makes noise indicating that the computer knows I've attached something. When I look in Device Manager the Creative Zen V shows up with a yellow exclamation point, and the error is listed as "This device cannot start. (Code 10)".

NOTE: My friend also has a Creative Zen. It's never been "rebooted", and when I connect it to my laptop, it's detected.

I have some of the same problem. Mine was working fine, but it suddenly won't charge when hooked to a USB port. It IS, however, recognized by thr computer.

I got a Zen V Plus for xmas haven't been able to get it to work.

At first, it looked like it was dead. After several attempts on several computers, and charging for 6 hours+, it appears to have power - the main buttons have a blue light, which fades away after some time.

It still looks dead, but on closer inspection I can barely see on the screen - Re-building Library. But this keeps going and going... I have to be in a dark room to even make that out...

It almost recognizes the device - when first connect by usb for a second it pops up New device found: Creative Zen... then a second later it shows that it has found MTP Device. When left on, it looks like the device appears and disappears every minute.

Never been able to really connect it to any computer, never saw the screen work properly.

I've tried the pin reset on the side, using XP SP2, meet all requirements, upgraded WMP to v11, all creative software installed as per instructions before connecting device, charged device...

Check out the comment by dspanogle on this website. it is 2013 i know. but i still have mine and love it. it has worked up until now, but now all of a sudden wont. i dont know if the battery is just totally shot after 12 years(probably) or if my windows vista update on windows media player pehaps messed with the MPT settings on my vista which is causing it to no longer charge. Before i installed the CD on Vista and nothing worked, no software i mean, but for some reason it would at least charge, which was good. In the past the computer is all that has worked even a vista, but no power hub has, i once tried a powerhub that used 4 double AA batteries and it did nothing. I suspect for the reason in this comment i will add for a link having to do with 4 pins. I have not yet tried a wall charger, but after reading this comment i will try that. if all else fails, the battery is shot and it had a good 12yr run. Try this link though. VERY helpful.

Hey; I just had the same problem with my player; I uninstalled Windows media player 11 (brought it back to ten). Then I formatted my player, (You do this by unplugging it from the computer, then you turn off the player, and then you press the play button while also powering your player on, once you see the creative labs logo release the play button, a screen will appear, select format, then yes (it will delete all of your information on the player) then once you are done formatting select reboot. Once it's done rebooting connect it to your computer! It fixed the problem for me!

I had the same problem. Reinstalling Windows Media Player didn't help; nor did reinstalling the Creative drivers.
But this worked... in Device Manager I uninstalled everything under Universal Serial Bus controller, rebotted and let Windows reinstall the USB drivers. Had to reinstall my mouse software too, but the Zen is now back to normal.
Hope this helps someone.

I think i good idea, would be if you have a x box, connect your zen to the usb and connect it into the front of the x box and give it ten seconds to settle and hey presto!

I''ve had porblems on and off with my Zen MicroPhoto since the day I bought it and spent hours trying to rectify the problem and I've finally found the solution!!!
My player would not connect to my PC, both in XP or Vista, Media player seemed to make very little difference and I'm pretty certain the problems arose when I uinstalled the Creative software.
I had a 'code 10' connection problem in my device manager, from trying it on several computers I realised it wasent the operating system, the player had malfunctioned.
Here is the solution.. (option 3 worked for me)

1)I would like you to refer to the link below for the recovery tool
detection issues.

Troubleshooting MP3 Player Recovery Tool detection issues

2)I will need you to enter to the MP3 player recovery mode to do some
cleanup and reboot for 2 cycles. The cleanup option removes invalid
links and do simple housekeeping. The reboot option helps you to exit
from recovery mode safely and below is the link on how to do it.

Recovery Mode and Updating Firmware on a Creative MP3 Player

3)After doing the Clean-up and Reboot, I would advise you to update the
firmware using the MP3 Recovery Tool. Please kindly refer to the link
below. (if applicable)

Creative zen not reconised

What you might want to try is to connect the USB cable to the device and an open port on your PC and let it charge and see if after it has a full charge if you can power it on without having any other problem. Or if after it has a full charge if it is recognized by your PC as a connected device. If it has a full charge and recognized by your PC you should be able to use it without having any problem. Another solution is to download the updated firmware software, run the firmware update check your device and see if the display shows the Creative Labs logo if so you are in the clear and it should work without any other action needing to be taken on your behalf

Zen problems

it may be in a low power state, try a different usb cable and hook it up to a desktop computer (laptop ports are sometimes not powerful enough to charge the battery when it is in a low-power state). I had this exact same problem and that fixed it!

Creative zen malfunction with usb,Device not recognized

It looks like you need to restore the firmware on this players. There is a firmware utility. Sometimes though the creative player will not even be recognized by the firmware utility. Listen to the player and make sure the hard drive spins. If it does you can send it to a Creative Zen Repair service. They will take the hard drive out and write the firmware directly to the hard drive to get you up and running again.

Vision M not recognized

I'm having the exact same problem. My zen is 'charging' but isn't detected anywhere on my pc and I'd leave it charging for days but nothing happens. I've tried different usb ports, reinstalling the software several times but nothing. I recently reinstalled Windows and with my new pc my Zen cannot work on it for some reason?! I put previous files from my old pc onto my Zen hoping that I could transfer them onto my new Windows pc but I fear I've lost the data on my Zen completely. Arggh, any suggestions guys? Please..x
