We are setting up new TallyGenicom LA800. However, printout has dot or period in between each characters printed. Hence, a single row info is printed on two rows. What seems to be the problem?

It would be strange for the printer to print dot between each printed character without this coming from the system.
As a check the first thing I would recomend doing would be to print a self test print on the printer, you can do this easiest by printing a menu print.
To print a menu print put the pritner OFFLINE
Press SETUP
Press the button under MENU
Press the button under PRINT.
The printer should print out its configuration page, if this has dots between each character then this defiantly means you have printer problems.
You can try defaulting the pritner back to factory settings, this is down by holding down the four buttons (1, 2, 3 & 4) under the LCD display whilst powerind the printer on.

If the menu prints OK, then there is some sort of other strange system or communication problem.
If the pritner is connected via serial, check the serial settings on the pritner also chack the pin configuration of the connector used to print to the printer.

Try printing from another system or application to identify what might be causing the problem for example an application or driver problem, perhaps try printing from a PC directly to the pritner to check the interface on the printer is OK.

Check the emulation setting on the pritner ensure this is correct.

It keeps coming up with an error hardware alarm +0664 +131-- 000003+0381+0673 then you have to turn it off and back on again then it starts printing and then just stops in the middle and comes up...

The hardware alarm being indicated on the 2280+ indicates the pritner is detecting problems with moving the print head. I would recomend trying the follwoing;

  1. Remove the ribbon from the printer, check this for damage or jamming. A jammed or damaged ribbon may prevent the print head moving. Perhaps try subsituting the ribbon for an alternative.
  2. Check for any paper jams, or other items with may heve been droped into the pritner which may obstruct the print head movement.
  3. With the printer powered OFF slide the print head backwards and forwards it should be free to move with the printer powered off.
  4. Clean the carriage shaft, this is the shaft which the print head moves along. This shaft should be clean of dust and dirt. It should NOT have any oil or other lubricant on it.
  5. Clean the timing strip, there is a thin transparent strip which runs accross the wodth on the pritner next to the carriage shaft, this is the timing strip. Take care not to dislodge this thin strip, clean any dust off this strip.
  6. Check the print head gap to ensure that the print head is not catching on the paper.
Finaly power the pritner off and back on, the error will not clear untill the pritner has been powered off and back on again.

Depeninding on your findings after trying the above, if the problem persists, I would recomend checking or perhaps replacing the following;
  • Timing strip
  • Timing station
  • Carriage motor
  • Carriage shaft
  • Ribbon Drive
all these items can affect the free movement of the print head.

My printer wont print

As the device is connected wirelessly, make sure there is no interference in wireless communication. Also you can try to set pritner status online by right clicking on printer icon. Also try to  use the cd again and do an add a device.
