There is probably a small piece(s) of debris floating around in there. Look very carefully for it with a flashlight. Try to remove it that way.
You can also buy "canned air" available at computer and office supply stores and use it to blow out the printer as thoroughly as you can.
Believe it or not, I have read where a small piece of skin has kept the carriage from moving properly.
